Don't forget to charge the maximum allowed portion to a CC for points or cash back.

I called it a month ago. :p

Yeah and they tried to pull some bullshit with me too. I literally walked out.

I went to test drive it and loved it and so did the family, so I said let's do this. And the sales guy sat down with me then went back to get the paperwork and then the manager came back with him and was like "I know he quoted you $51k but that was for someone else in another state so this is as low as we can go without losing money" and the price was $51,509. I was like "are you serious? we agreed to $51k and I have it in email" and the manager is like "I'm sorry but he gave you incorrect information and this is what we can do" and I was like "okay well I'm leaving. i'm calling my wife right now to come back and pick me up."

So I got on my phone and told my wife and she was in disbelief and thought I was joking at first then came to get me. As I walked out I was like "if you want to do $51k, you better call me quick because once I am out of Laurel (it was 30 mins from my house) I am not coming back here". Like 10 seconds after being in the car they called me and it was my sales guy and he was apologizing about it and asked me if I could wait 5-10 minutes while he calls the general manager that he was talking to the day before who ok'd the deal and wasn't working today. I told him I may be out of Laurel by then and he said can you wait 2 minutes? I said sure.

My kids were thirsty so we just found a 7-11 close by and went there. As I was leaving the store the sales guy called me and said they can do $51k. I told him I'd be there after I leave 7-11 and we can close the deal.

As I got there was very apologetic about it all, and I truly don't think it was the sales guys fault at all and rather was the higher up. But then we went through everything and I got the deal done. The only thing that sucks is the bank I was getting my cashiers check across the street closed earlier than their recording told me when I called, so I was unable to get the down payment check. I have to go back with it this weekend.

I also never saw that other manager the whole time I was there finalizing everything.

I can't believe how long the whole process took though it was like 3 hours or so. A lot of sitting around and being bored but whatever it's done now.

Here is my knew ride though.

And this is why I'm never buying another car at a dealership again, this stupid bullshit right here. I mean, ideally I'd like to just not ever buy another car, we'll see how that pans out.

I think the dealership has only been open for like 3-4 months so that is why your street view looks like that. That wasn't taken THAT long ago.
You have to admit that is was pretty cool. Congrats on the new ride!!

Glad that you got the full Kia experience. :p In fairness, this is pretty standard for new car buying. The reality is they have few sales opportunities, so they want to maximize profits on every single one. Obviously they don't value your time at all. Also, they knew you weren't local so chances are low you'll come back to their service department. Not to condone their bullshit tactic, but this was their only chance to make money off of you.

But I'm glad that in the end, it was a win/win situation. The good news is that it should be a long while until you get to play this game again.

Dumb question, but what happened WITHOUT the down payment cashier's check?

Well they knew my plan was to go get it there, and the sales guy said even if i didn't they would have 2 contracts, 1 with 0 down payment, 1 with down payment, and once i bring the check, the first one would be ripped up. Since the financing doesn't "start" until February I guess that is why they can do that and not mess with the financing aspect of it.

But since we already had the contract written up and signed and stuff, and then they just said to get hte check and come back here after you do, when I got back yet ANOTHER manager came and introduced himself to me and asked if I could come on Thursday and I said yeah, but then I said can I just come Saturday since I'm not working? And he was like yeah that is fine since it's within 7 days. I mean in a way it is a risk for them, but the finance guy was like "I saw your credit I trust you".

It doesn't have to be like that. I brokered a deal and declined every extra by the sales manager and was done in 10 minutes. It took 30 minutes to go over the infotainment system and I was rolling. I used a broker and saved a bunch, and he found the dealer and the salesman and all I had to do was write a check and sign. I'm sure buying online is a similar experience if you have the vehicle delivered to you.

Glad that after all the bullshit, you finally got the vehicle you wanted at the price you wanted!

BTW, how's the insurance cost for that?

Congrats on the new ride. Those Kia Tellurides are really nice. If my kids were still younger that would have been my go to instead of the Mach-E.

Anyway, I'm gonna leave this here so now every time you get into your new Kia you will think of it. Once it is seen it can't be unseen.:)

One thing I like about Subaru is that the car costs what it costs. I remember buying a Chevy and having the lady do the cleavage play and then the sales manager bro screaming "let's go sell a car!" before walking in to talk to me.

My last purchase was done online during the early height of Covid (April of 2020), and the vehicle delivered to me (I test drove a similar model at a nearby dealership), so it was certainly more pleasant.

I'm going to look at it a bit more once I get rid of my G37S that is on there still, but it basically doubled the price of my 2 car plan by adding a 3rd. Went from like $750 to $1500 basically every 6 months.

Yah in reality though it's not as bad as it seems. Or at least I'm trying to tell myself that because of me being an idiot for years.

My insurance for the past years has been like $170 then went to $190.

But it was me being dumb af all this time keeping full coverage on both of our cars that have been paid off since 2017, especially mine since its just in worse shape and I will be happy to get $1500 from Carmax for it.

Then literally like mid December I went in and changed ours to remove full coverage and the insurance went down to like $119/month or so, which ends up around that $750 number I mentioned above.

So I got 1 month of that rate lol.

Then once I remove my infiniti from the plan once I get rid of it, I think my rate will go down close to like $200 or $210/month which will be somewhat close to what I was used to paying for insurance lol.

1. Quarterly numbers, you might have luck pressing the price end of quarter cause meeting projections etc.
2. End of year. See point 1. So doubly around EOY.

Thats about it.

I recently switched from State Farm (after more than a decade with them) to Progressive. The monthly rate for my 2019 F150 dropped from ~$190 to ~$90.
(0 tickets, 0 accidents, drive less than 10,000 miles per year)

Just for shits and giggle, I ran the numbers for the 2024 F150 Lightning…their algorithm must have screwed up…the same coverage…rate dropped by anout $5/month.

Comprehensive is pretty cheap here. It’s the uninsured/underinsured coverage that kills us. It’s more than the liability and comprehensive coverage combined.

Yeah I am going to shop around.

I did shop around when I did that change a while back and didn't really see much of a difference, but it's also a pain in the ass to really know the true cost of things because I have my home owners insurance bundled with my car insurance so there is some kind of discount. I can't really know what that discount would be if I were to switch to another one when I'm just shopping around.

Yeah, the bundling discounts really add up. Living in WA, it can be difficult to find a company still writing new homeowner policies.

I think a realistic expectation is that if you negotiate for a new car it will take at least 5 pages of posts on the ATOT forum.

How on earth do you miss bolting down seats? I mean they (computers) count the parts before and after shift no? How do you have hundreds of bolts discrepancy and not notice?

Also pre delivery checkup should have flagged this as well.

That rotating second row is a stupid gimmick.
