While I guess this could be applied to any game, I'm thinking of WoW PvP specifically.
Personally, it just never made much sense to me. At its worst you have teams of higher levels corpse-camping lowbies or killing quest NPCs to cockblock others, how anyone older than 12 and with an IQ higher than 75 could find this entertaining is beyond me... but even at its "best"; consentual PvP on a PvE server, it's basically half running around with 10-20 others killing single flagged players you come across, the other half *being* the single player that roving gangs of opposite-faction players come across. Either way there's no challenge, no real fight... And on the rare occasion you're in 1v1 combat the outcome is determined almost entirely by luck... you win and think how much you "pwn" for 5 minutes until the luck turns the other way, or you lose and talk about what an ass the player was, how he cheated, how lag killed you... What about any of this do people find fun?
I've given some thought to the fact that I didn't/don't have any siblings; perhaps having been raised an only child has permanently skewed my instinct to compete, even into my adult life? To anyone replying, if you feel comfortable discussing it - I'd be interested to know if you like/dislike PvP and if you are/were an only child.
