When I go to Chick Fil A, I put mayo on my sammich and the waffle fries.

it is for people like you that we should bring back the pillory.

I know where I'll go for lunch tomorrow. Give it a shot.

Last time I was at Wendy's I was impressed that my burger actually resembled the picture 😱 I thought that would never, ever happen anywhere, but I opened up the wrap and there it was, pristine like the pic.

I almost didn't want to eat it. But I did.

D: Steak sauce of any kind is freaking nasty.

Pickles on burgers are horrible too, with rare exception, and don't get me started on ketchup. D:

KT

you are correct on only one account there, sir (kethcup)

though I, too, am not a fan of steak sauce and in most cases BBQ sauce, is think they are fine on a big greasy burger (and fries)

in 98% of cases, what you see in ads--print and TV--from fast food joints, or, well, just about all restaurants that advertise, is not actually food. It's usually made from some sort of playdough-like putty.

You are right to feel a bit put-off that it so closely resembled the picture.

 This man watches Alton Brown or just knows his shit. I made Alton Brown's Mini Man Burgers this weekend and applied thin layer of mayo on both sides of the bread. The mayo is the protective layer for the bread. Without it, your burger will become soggy in less than 5 minutes.

or you could just toast the bread with a thin layer of butter which is:

far superior in taste
far superior in quality burger/bun retention
far manlier
not gay (like using mayo)

No, I like wrapping dozen dinner rolls in foil and putting in the oven for 10 minutes to get it hot and warm. It's far simpler.

You can toast your dinner rolls.

Man, some of you guys like to put too much crap on your burger. How the hell are you supposed to taste the beef? The less condiments the better. You guys are probably the same type of people who put a bunch of crap on your steak. I pay for the beef so that's what I want to taste.

The Wendy's burger today pretty much allowed the beef to be the main focus. There are burgers out there I also eat with just meat and cheese. Even Dennys makes a pretty solid burger now a days.

lol not what I meant 😀
Meant it looked so perfect I almost didn't want to eat it and mess it up.

You want to know why? I will tell you why. Because a good burger is greasy and has fat drippings on it from the bacon and the beef. You think that ketchup and mustard can fight off a good fat dripping? No! Why? Because they're water based condiments, that's why.

There's a reason they say you fight fire with fire. Same principle applies to a hamburger. You fight fat with fat and mayo is nothing if not a delicious, cool layer of fat. You see, you NEED that layer of mayo between those delicious beef and pork fat drippings or your bun absolutely goes to shit. Mayo brings balance to the burger force and maintains the law and order of a good burger. Mayo keeps those liberal veggies in check, but also keeps the fat ass meats in order too. Mayo, my friends, is the burger law and order and is essential to the proper function of a good hamburger.

LOL, so the reason is because fast food burgers just weren't greasy enough without the added mayo?

I love mayo but not on a burger, there's already plenty of grease on those...especially when they have cheese and bacon on them.

I just had one at lunch.
DAMN! That is a fine burger!

I usually eat grilled chicken, plain, with BBQ sauce.
The beef/cheese/mayo/ketchup/vegetables made it taste amazing to me, so my opinion is biased.

Really? The Wendys near me must have old stock then. I went yesterday and it was no different than it ever has been. Do you need to ask specifically for it, or do all the burgers have the new beef?

Hell if I know.
The beef patty and pickles were much thicker, there wasn't mustard on it and it had a top and bottom slice of cheese.
The menu renamed the first 3 value meals to "Dave's Thick and Juicy", but kept the same numbers (#1=single, #2=double, etc).

Oh, yeah our menu didn't state that. It must not have started here yet.

I've been eating at Wendy's since the early '80s and I don't think I've ever had a burger there. Wendy's has, far and away, the best chicken of any national chain excepting Chick-Fil-A, which I grant solely on reputation as they do not exist out west. If you go to Wendy's and get a sandwich other than chicken you're doing it wrong. Also, the day the chicken nuggets were introduced was a grand day (and the commercials were epic). The day the nuggets got taken off the dollar menu in favor of the spicy nuggets (which aren't close to as good as the spicy sandwich) was a sad day indeed.

Also, I should point out that the mayo conversation is moot; mayo is itself absolutely revolting and does not belong on anything. But, even if you were to insist on mayo on your burger, the Alton Brown thinking is flawed. Yes, fat-based emulsions like mayo repel burger "juices" and prevent the bun from getting soggy. What said analysis fails to consider is that the juices being repelled have already been squozen from the patty; they are, in effect, "lost". If a thin layer of mayo prevents the bun from absorbing the juices, they have nowhere in the sandwich to go. Thus, they must either run down your hands or drip all over the place. Ipso facto, mayo-coated buns promote bun stability at the cost of burger flavor and overall cleanliness.

You can also admit you're a picky wuss because everyone else likes mayo and you don't.

I bet you're the guy the picks stuff off your pizza too.

Chick Fil A is here on the west coast. There is one about 2 miles from me.

A real man doesn't give a fuck if his hands get dirty after eating a hamburger

responses in bold.

Wendy's has a keychain thingy that you buy for a dollar, and you get more than 300 free frosties. That is win.

Sadly, their spicy chicken sandwich and their fries now suck. Their fries used to be awesome.

I eat at Wendys quite often, but usually get the 99 cent crispy chicken sammich's. I have never had issues with their burgers, but it appears sales slipping has caused a change. They have them on their site, has anyone tried them?
