Wendys remakes its signature burger

I was a huge fan of their spicy chicken sandwich but recently they changed out the juicy patty for some thin dry one and it just isn't the same anymore.

My problem isn't with Wendy's food its with their actual restaurants.
The ones near where I work always seem run down and out dated, though Burger King is a whole lot worse in that respect.

RIP Dave Thomas. I will probably have to go to Wendy's soon to try it out. Are these burgers available everywhere? I guess I'll just ask when I go.

I wish that Wendy's spent more time cleaning up their restaurants and hiring better staff. While the food is usually pretty good, the staff and cleanliness of the locations is pretty dismal.

But the biggest issue is that Wendy's, which hadn't changed its burger since the chain began in 1969, let its food offerings get stale while competitors updated their menus.

??? I always thought the nice thing about Wendy's was that they offered a lot more than their competition? Certainly better than McDonalds and Burger King. We don't have any In n' Outs or anything big chain like that, the Wendy's around here are the best fast food we got. In fact one of them was one of the busiest stores in the nation at one point. They STILL get lines going out the door at lunch time, it is ridiculous.

I remember Wendy's from back in College (12 years ago). Do they still have those square patties? I always thought they got the packing efficiency angle covered with square patties and buns.

Yea, this is an issue with some of their places. There are two near my work, in opposite directions. One is really old, run down, kind of unsanitary looking. I think their restaurant sanitation score is like 92 out of 100. The other is only a few years old, nice inside, and super clean. The clean one goes as far as giving you a brand new cup every time you get a refill. Their sanitation score is 101 (extra points for some training class). So obviously I go to one, not the other.

The comments in the article have had quite a few that also said the restaurants were in less than good shape. I have never been inside the one near me, its always the drive through.

It switched to whole-fat mayonnaise, nixed the mustard, and cut down on the pickles and onions — all to emphasize the flavor of the beef.
wtf people in the rest of the country have no clue what should be on burgers. moar pickles, moar onions, no mayo, ketchup belongs on fries, and extra mustard.

give me no onions(unless cooked), leave the rest, including mustard. I'd be tempted to say get rid of the lettuce and tomato.

Ehh, Wendy's is my favorite chain fast food place, but I'll pass on this sammich.

I'm with ElFenix on this ... pickles, onions, and Mustard are fantastic on a burger... and, they don't "take away" from the beef flavor at all, they enhance it.

And Ketchup and mayo don't belong! (that said, sliced tomatoes on a burger are fantastic!)

That said, I am a big fan of places that use 8oz patties or bigger ....

Tasters said they wanted a thicker burger, so Wendy's started packing the meat more loosely, trained cooks to press down on the patties two times instead of eight and printed "Handle Like Eggs" on the boxes that the patties were shipped in so they wouldn't get smashed.
...so now the burger is thicker, only because they reduced its density? (Or else the article just didn't include all the details.)
