Well I finally saw my first Xbox360

Well I finally saw one over at CC, and I must say I wasn't excactly thrilled. I played the COD2 demo, which I have already played on my comp. It looks like it could seriously use some AF, textures just a few feet away already looked blurred, but close up they were great. I didn't really see any AA being implemented, it looked really jaggedy. (this was on a 720P samsung LCD monitor). I was really expecting something much better, pcs still own it at graphics. Yeah sure it's better than the original xbox, but it's nothing phenominal. If I could just say one word about the xbox360, it would be

meh

EDIT: The framerate wasn't all that great either, I'm guessing it was around 20 fps.
 
same here. With COD2 being about equal to my X800XL in graphics - not blown away by it.

who knows though, it may have been because of the ported nature of the game
 
You're basing the entire merits of a next generation console system on a single demo of a first release game?

Sounds fair..

Felt the same way.

Definitely a step up from Xbox, games are nice/fun and all (King Kong is pretty cool), but there is no AA.

The FPS seemed fine for me....40+ on CoD and King Kong.

Nothing phenomenal

its the 2nd coming alright, the 2nd coming of the xbox and nothing more.
 
every single game ive seen for it,in motion...looks like it could be duplicated very faithfully on a decent gaming pc.

yeah I wanna see that too. I'm very sceptical about the quality now though, there have been theese pics that look so real, but i'm not too sure if they're real now.

FYI, GT4 has been around for over a year now for PS2...

of course, we'd expect the developers to be fairly comfortable with a development kit that is pretty much a dual core power pc cpu and an ati graphics card that is slightly weaker than an x1800. This thing aint' exactly revolutionary. Now something that might taake time for developers to grow into would be more like sony's proprietary cell cpu, or whatever strange thing nintendo is doing. Just like the last generation xbox, all microsoft is doing is repackaging a pc.
 
I read that some of demo units only had one core in it and/or AA wasnt enabled? Also heard that most of them werent set up properly

Might not be true, just what I heard.

maybe one of these days, we'll come across an xbox 360 game that can actually show us something current generation consoles can't do.
 
im always sort of down on consoles...but i do have a ps2 and a gc.
i pretty much have the ps2 for rpgs (read: square) and nintendo for their games.
xbox has yet to offer me enough games to justify getting it.

Which will happen when developers learn to grasp the power of the console and arent just ports.

Edit: Have you looked at Gears of War by the way?

Thank you! about a week back I was over at BB and essentially said the same thing and got burned by the flames.

Meh, I had a lot more fun with both PGR 1&2 than I did with GT4. GT3 was a wash, as I liked getting all the cars and tuning them in GT, but liked driving them more in PGR.

I like the car collecting and tuning aspect of GT, but the gameplay is getting very boring.

Your unit was definitely set up wrong.

I work at Gamestop and I've been to two Wal-marts and even the E.B. across the street from us ALL had their units setup wrong. You need to switch it from TV mode to HD mode. That is why you guys are seeing jaggies.

And there is no way it was running at 20fps. I've played the demo numerous times on numerous machines and it always runs at at least 30fps, although I'm pretty sure its actually running at 60.
