Well I finally saw my first Xbox360

As always.. the people setting the XBOX360 up in these stores SUCK! It's just like BB running Analog TV signals (split a thousand times) into all their HDTV.

I work at Gamestop and I've been to two Wal-marts and even the E.B. across the street from us ALL had their units setup wrong. You need to switch it from TV mode to HD mode. That is why you guys are seeing jaggies.

And there is no way it was running at 20fps. I've played the demo numerous times on numerous machines and it always runs at at least 30fps, although I'm pretty sure its actually running at 60.

Ah, so that confirms the rumor I have been hearing! Thanks

maybe one of these days, we'll come across an xbox 360 game that can actually show us something current generation consoles can't do.
The game in real life will never look that good. I guarantee you that if you were to take a photograph of NFS on the gamecube, it wouldn't resemble that screenshot. Just take a look at one of the videos.

Trust me, I own a GC and there is no game that looks as good as that screenshot.

I played COD2 today on the 360. First time i had seen 360 in full action. I have to say, the graphics are wwaaay better than orig. XBOX. but i guess they could be better...

I haven't even done that yet😱

i want to see how it compares to gt4.

Only reason I might buy a XBOX 360, otherwise really no interest, don't own 1 console system for the first time in years & not missing them.

the first gen xbox 360 games are impressive yet they do not use half or even a third of the potential of the 360. remember what the first gen xbox games looked like?

the games will only get better for the 360

Everyone keeps setting their XBox to 720p via the dash, but that does NOT mean it's running in HD. There is an actual switch on the cords that plug into your TV that changes it from SD to HD. And it seems as though none of the Microsoft reps know this. 😕

Ah, so that confirms the rumor I have been hearing! Thanks

Whatever you may think now sould change after dev. start making games and learning their way around the 360 better. Games always look better and better as time progresses for a console.

Well, if Anandtech is any authority on this, only 1 of the 3 processors are being used atm.

Oh no, what are we going to do? The PC beats the Xbox in graphics! No!!!!!! Do you really think people buy consoles because they think PC's are inferior? Come on....

Then I lose nothing, and only have to gain, if I wait🙂

RE4 looks good, but it could still improve a lot. Higher res textures and AA/AF would help a lot in that game.

Well I finally saw one over at CC, and I must say I wasn't excactly thrilled. I played the COD2 demo, which I have already played on my comp. It looks like it could seriously use some AF, textures just a few feet away already looked blurred, but close up they were great. I didn't really see any AA being implemented, it looked really jaggedy. (this was on a 720P samsung LCD monitor). I was really expecting something much better, pcs still own it at graphics. Yeah sure it's better than the original xbox, but it's nothing phenominal. If I could just say one word about the xbox360, it would be

meh

EDIT: The framerate wasn't all that great either, I'm guessing it was around 20 fps.

Thank you! about a week back I was over at BB and essentially said the same thing and got burned by the flames.

Just about every other console has looked better than anything else out there upon release. Then as time goes on it goes better.

The only other console that ever came out that was so similar to current technology was the dreamcast, and we all know how that one went.

I wasnt impressed at e3, and Im still not impressed. I WANT to be impressed. But it isnt doing it.

I too played COD2 at a CC, and it was definitely locked at 60fps. But it was also definitely playing in 480p. I saw it in high res at e3, and it was a chopfest like every other 360 game.

Now Ive heard that those werent final systems and all, but Ive yet to see COD in person in HD on final hardware.

Personally, Ive always thought that one of the advantages of a console is that you only have one configuration to program for. Now that 360 and ps3 have to deal with higher resolutions they have to make a choice. Do they just let the HD modes run slower? Or do they program the 720p mode for 60fps, and then let all that extra power go to waste when the majority of people run it in 480P?

I have a good feeling that even though it wont be able to do HD, the revolution may be just powerful enough to match the other systems at 480, which is going to be far the most used resolution by the majority of people.

I dont think any games that are coming out now are fully taking advantage of the hardware. Give it a few before games start to pwn.

But thats the point. This holds true for all systems. First out the gate always has the worst gfx. The PS2 was able to make up for this to a large degree because it was so complicated that developers really could do amazing things given enough time.

360 is yet another PC in a box. Extra CPUs are going to make ai better, not so much gfx.

What the 360 needs is a more powerful gfx card, since not only does it have to be able to do so much more than the previous gen, but it also has to do it with 3 times the pixels.

Exactly... And RE4 is probably the best looking game on the Gamecube. That and Metroid Prime.

Umm the human eye canno't see more than 60fps so who cares if it runs at 60fps at 720p, and 60fps at 480p also... Thing is you want it staying at 60fps and not dropping below it during high/intense action scenes.... Its piontless or the game to run at 120fps in 480p just cuz it can.

Well it would help if it had a better gfx card, but graphics technology is always improving. So no matter what they put in it, it will always be outdated. In all honesty, the majority of the people buying the xbox360 will be connecting it to their old tv's via rca cables. They won't notice or care for the potential difference. Only the tech heads like us with HD tv's will care enough, and that's not enough people to make a big difference.

THIS IS FVCKING HARD WITHOUGHT A MOUSE :|

Same here. Definately impossible to play without a mouse. I wanted to just aim and shoot a few guys but had to wait for the screen to scroll over far enough instead of just being able to twitch and shoot.

Youre missing the point. Im well aware of what the human eye can see.

I personally have a HDTV, and want to play the game im playing to the fullest. I dont like having to choose between high res, high frame rate, and good gfx.

But that choice will HAVE to be made. There is no magic inside the xbox 360 that makes it possible to do the same it can do at 720p that it can at 480p.

The only way a game is going to run at the same speed at 720p as it does at 480p is if there is wasted potential at 480p. Which is kind of a dumb thing to do considering that most people will be playing at 480p.

And of course, any game programmed to be fully efficient at 480p is going to be slower at 720p, since it has to do 3 times as much.

Cant have your cake and eat it too, apparently.
