No more than a biweekly salary.

And because of Leonardo Dicaprio's stunning performance in Blood Diamond I refuse to buy any thing with a diamond in it, therefore keeping my budget low.

or you could buy a synthetic diamond, get a better quality stone guilt free.

Wow, you are lucky to be alive!

Are you still married?

:p

11 years on the 27th :ninja:

Basic white gold band for me.

Wife now has a basic gold band. It replaced a band with a few little diamonds in it that had problems staying in. Especially since she abused the hell out of it.

Don't think she wears the engagement ring anymore. Bought that together after the proposal.

Ours were a couple hundred a piece, mind you this was in 2002, way before gold prices got jacked.
We ordered some Celtic bands from raru.com

We had a custom ring made for my wife for our 20th anniversary. This wasnt some modified ring from a jeweley chain. It was literally drawn on paper with the designer, designed in CAD, molded as wax and finally white gold. We used existing stones from 3 other rings and that total for the new ring was about $2000. I have a vague recollection that the other rings cost about $7000 total for the other rings. Stones were removed and gold was sold back to jeweler. This is a one of a kind ring we designed. No other like it until someone copies it. People notice it immediately and almost always praise the design and build of it. Platinum would have been was cooler, but the costs were way too high.

Hers: $7500
Mine: $100

If I didn't have the money I sure as hell wouldn't have spent what I spent, these people out there financing rings...can't say I'd do that for a ring.

I was indulgent and got a platinum band for her engagement ring. When we started looking at wedding bands, we had both agreed we wanted to do both for under $500, b/c I'm bound to lose mine and she had an expensive ring already. However, turns out that white gold looks a lot different than platinum, and that b/c I bought her a solitaire engagement ring she wanted something a bit more blingy for the wedding band. In all, hers cost ~$1000, while mine is made of tungsten and cost ~$250. CDN prices, btw.

Agree that it is stupid to finance rings.

or you could buy a conflict free diamond.... lots of those around. Canadian diamonds have a premium, but there's pretty much a guarantee that there was no conflict involved in mining that diamond.

$1600 for her engagement ring.
$900 for matching band.
Both were platinum which bumped the price.

My wedding band was a $90 titanium internet special.

Or you could buy synthetic for 1/100th of the price

Mine maybe $50, her wedding and engagement ring-maybe $300-500 total. Was a student with zero income when we were married, both (especially me) hate jewelry.

There is much more to life than conspicuous consumption.

Closing in on 40 years marriage in a few years.

Looking now actually. Just looked at a 1 carat loose diamond in person for $2800. Hoping to get the band/setting for 1000-1600
