I have a problem with this. Jersey Mike’s? Really?

When I’m in California a good hoagie is hard to find but…you?

:tearsofjoy: I know, it could be a character flaw but, I think it's a solid sandwich. We have more than a couple great salumerias around here that make their mozz fresh daily and have all high end meats - I just don't always want an Italian sandwich, sometimes just a standard Jersey hoagie style - but there are plenty of bad delis where the schlubbs making the sandwich just dont' care. But yes, we do have options here.

I do just get one sandwich at JM - the super sub, Mike's Way, add mayo and hot peppers. I went to my first one like 13 years ago, and the quality is always good, it's always the same at every location I"ve been to in nothern NJ, I've tried like 5 or 6 so far. Everything is fresh - never a brownish piece of shredded lettuce or mushy tomato yet. And they slice the meat on the spot. And Mike's Way is solid. Only other sandwich I've had there is the cheesesteak, and it was one and done - the meat is sliced too thick. But the super sub is my sin every few months or so. I have never been to a JM outside Jersey though, maybe the quality is not as good?

And the "cultist following" just keeps growing and growing:

Amazon - US warehouse employees will once again be required to wear masks indoors beginning on Monday, whether they are vaccinated or not.

Apple - At least half of the Apple stores across the nation will require shoppers to wear masks again.

Disney World - Starting July 30, face coverings will be required while indoors at the Walt Disney World resort including on transportation.

Disneyland - Starting July 30, face coverings are required for any visitor who is at least two years old in all indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status.

Facebook -
Any Facebook employee working at its U.S. offices needs to wear a mask, regardless of their vaccination status.

Home Depot - all workers must wear masks.

McDonald's - Employees at both corporate- and franchisee-owned McDonald's locations in counties deemed to be at high risk for COVID-19 transmission by the CDC will have to wear masks.

Publix - As of July 30, Publix is asking everyone in its stores to wear face coverings and socially distance, regardless of vaccination status .

Smithsonian -
Starting July 30, the Smithsonian will require all visitors who are at least two years old to wear a mask in its museums and indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status.

This is a no brain topic. Covid is here and it's a killer. It's up to us to learn to live with it and perhaps eventually stop it. You don't want your child infecting your Anti-Vax mother and she dies.

Even a fully vaccinated person can be contagious and not know it - Get your God Damn vaccine shot.

You stand better than a 95% chance of surviving if you are fully vaccinated and have a much lesser chance of spreading it if you have the virus.

Ware your mask in closed environments arround lots of people and attempt social distancing under them conditions - Vaccinated or not !

This latest Covid 19 Delta strain is a killer of the un-vaccinated and is 10 x's more infectious !

Jersey Mike's is really fucking good.

When I was in Manhattan a friend said 99 miles to Philly was closest he'd had to authentic cheesesteak. Jersey Mike's was better.

I’m sorry to tell you but Southern California hoagies and Manhattan hoagies are trash.

straight trash.

I love Manhattan and I love Southern California but the one thing they share is they can’t make a good hoagie to save their lives.

NYC has the best Jewish delis in America but Philly has the best Italian delis. If you want a great pastrami sandwich you go to New York but if you want a great hoagie you go to Philly.

You do not go to fucking Jersey Mike’s.

for example go to Centrella’s on Brookline boulevard. That’s a real hoagie. You will never go back to goddamn Jersey Mike.

wtf is the definition of a "hoagie" - just the type of bread used?

Jersey Mikes is definitely good for "nearby sammich place" - name a better US wide chain sandwich place?

There are definitely some Northern NJ Italian Delis that would beg to differ. As this article notes, there are a lot of NNJ Italian Delis known for their amazing product, especially fresh muzz to go along with every other top ingredient they use, and this simple sammie (the NJ entrant here) gets lots of accolades. I've been to some, those guys are old school Eye-Talian:

Take the PATH to Hoboken and check it out. Andrea Salumeria in Jersey City is also known as a top Italian Deli. There are some in the burbs near Paterson I know of as well like A&C but that's a trek for you. But the Hoboken ones are just a train ride away.

Also dude, Razza Pizza is rated tops in the NYC area. It's great but there are definitely other options on the Neopolitan tip in the city, however Bread & Salt in JC makes this roman style pizza and breads that are out of this world. My buddy is an Italian immigrant, he swears by their slices. Loves the potato pizza one that reminds him of Italy.

To be clear, Jersey also has amazing Italian delis, so there’s no argument here.

NYC has some of the best food in the world but the two places it falls down on are Mexican and hoagies. (The Bronx has some great Mexican though)

I gotta get my bike to the Bronx for some Mexican. Rode through once on a ride to City Island to get some seafood on the water. I'd guess Staten Island would have some good Eye-talian joints too, but I'd rather give my money to some mofo in the Bronx. Bourdain did a pretty good episode in the Bronx for Parts Unkown.

Quite a few people swear by a few street taco vendors in Brooklyn, whether from a truck or a cart, as the best in the city, rivaling Cali tacos, I think by some ball yards is one spot. The AskNYC subreddit is pretty good for those inquiries.

Someone mentioned cheesesteaks so I’m going to bring that up.

Living in Northern California the only cheesesteak I’ve ever had (besides the ones I make) is from the cheesesteak shop.

For those in the know (like those who live around philly), how do they compare to the real thing and is there a place that makes better cheesesteaks in Northern California than the cheesesteak shop?

If you are in Philly, go to John's Roast Pork at least once. Goddamn.

Find a place that does a good tomato pie too.

And there are no comparisons. Sorry.

NJ has some amazing Italian delis/sandwich shops.

Best pizza I ever had was in Collingwood, NJ. I really hope that little place didn't close due to covid.

Best Philly cheesesteak (in Philly of course) is a little place by my aunt's house, though I can't recall the name. I really need to get back there.

You gotta have compassion for these poor people who see a cultist when they see a masked person.

There used to be a philly cheesesteak shop in my town here in Berkeley, CA. I hit it a time or two. Later I was sent by my company to Philly 3 times over the course of a year for brief consultations and I searched out food places, had a PCS or two for sure.

Best pizza I've ever had was probably made in my kitchen by me. In fact I'm going to try to rival it today... the one I made last week was really sub-par!
i wear my mask all the time when i'm out now

i'm used to it, work requires it
I do, except during my daily 10 milers (quad skating a residential street).

When the history of Covid19 is written, it will be noted that thousands of health care professionals, virologists responsible politicians from BOTH political parties purged thousands of "conservatives" from the gene pool, simply by telling them, “You have to wear a mask!” or “You need to get vaccinated!”. Propaganda and misinformation with regards to a public health crisis will kill you.

We are now dependent on the likes of Facebook and Twitter to remove disinformation about this pandemic. We should be the best informed generation ever. Instead 1/3 of humanity believes all kinds of bullshit.

I really don’t get what the big deal is over masks.
I agree they are a pain in the ass however is it really that important not to wear a mask?
Also why would Democrat’s want to conspire to make people wear useless masks? What purpose does it serve? Why expend the energy to do it?

It's a no brainer for any rational informed person. Masks slow the pandemic, flatten the curve, and we need that right now and will need it greater going forward into the fall/winter seasons. That's exactly what people SHOULD be thinking when they see masked persons, not the batshit lemme do what I want to do with my life asshat bullshit. Are we in this together or is it every shithead for themselves?
