So I'm up here in Canada again for my yearly fishing trip but got a little under the weather so I drive over to a some small town called vermillion bay and see some clinic - stop. Doctor instantly see me and does the doctors stuff they do writes script and I'm all "what do I owe you" him and staff laughs and says "we dont have a way to charge you"

Anyway having a blast as usual caught 22 walleye first day 21 second then decided to play in rain well more like sleet and got sick. Couple shots of Canadian whisky and a Zpack and i'm felling better already.

Sadly whisky was not free. $56 at LCBO for what I normally pay $19,99 for in states. Oh well cant win them all.

Have fun Zebo. The doctors in Italy can charge you if you go to a private clinic, but you can get reimbursed by your health plan on return to the us, my plan at least assures me. Travel via commercial means seems to be a good way of getting sick. I saw fly fisherman in Dartmoor and wished I could have gone with them. The fear of a gigantic hound scared me away.

Thanks. I think that you may be right I first flew to my brothers house in midwest then we loaded up the car with everyone and went north. No one else got sick but me. Fly fishing is too much work for me. I like bait or boat (trolling) to do the work but it's all good. It's mainly just about getting away.

I am always astonished by Canada's natural beauty and happy peoples. One of my favorite places to go.

You do realize that Canada starts with a C,.. as does Communism!

Also, OP, stop pushing the liberal propaganda that socialized medicine isn't as big a problem as we've been told it is.

http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/wait-times-for-medical-treatment-getting-longer-report-1.1516817

Specifically, the average wait time for orthopedic surgery reached 39.6 weeks for treatment, while patients waited an average 17.4 weeks for an appointment with a neurosurgeon.

We have Insurance plans in states with wait times like this. After Obamacare we switched insurance because the carrier we had before didnt write for our state anymore and I called to get my yearly physical with our new doctor with the new insurance and it was 2 months out. I switched to a different medical group that took our insurance and got it shortened.

No matter what health care has to be regulated everywhere. It's a finite resource with almost unlimited demand. Canada chooses state to do it. Our insurance companies do the dirty work stateside I'd argue less cost efficiently since they are for profit arbitrators.

Anyway I'm retired as in I may start needing more medical care and it doesn't worry me if it wasn't so damn cold I'd move up here. Low crime, about same taxes, great fishing and hunting and border is close for things they tax too much like booze.

I don't think it's the insurance plan that makes you wait for a procedure. If it is, when you have government as your one and only insurance option, what do you switch to then?

Generally our wait times are limited to the number of practitioners and workload. While prior authorizations may be needed for some insurances in some circumstances that's the main reason as those are usually resolved within a week or less.

Shens, all the Republicans in here say that you have to wait 6 months to see a Doctor there.

Oh, come on Dave, don't go run and stick your head in the sand like you always do when you're called out on your non-stop BS. Come back and have another go!

It doesn't appear that you have much knowledge about our health care and health insurance systems and the linked article is not actually providing the information that you think it is.

Maybe take the time to educate yourself a bit?

When I copy and paste from the article I am linking to, ya, it is saying what I claim it is saying. You have a counter claim or are you just going to fling shit calling everyone a liar?

Did I call you a liar? Did I even imply that you were a liar? That would be no to both.

And the only one flinging turds appears to be you.

One of these days, though, I suggest heading to a library and doing a few hours research on how our health insurance and medical system actually work. You might learn something.

Have a nice day.

Whatever you wish to call it. You are claiming I am wrong yet provide no data to back up that claim.

Have a nice day

And I provided you with the information you need to educate yourself on our system. It's up to you if you want to spend the effort.

Have not been up that way in too long, used to live up North and did the Inner passage on the West coast up into Alaska a few years ago.

Sounds you're having fun cool :)

I need to get up there again in near future, the Canadian snowbirds always flock down here for Spring Training, etc

Why are people getting bent on his post to begin with, is a bit idiotic.

*shrug*

Always a reason to argue for no reason it seems some people.

Some Americans, tending to be of a more conservative bent, seem to feel that they have to disparage/tear down the Canadian heath care system for some reason. They seem to like the idea that we're nothing but a bunch of forelock tugging serfs who have to wait 10 years to get an aspirin. Maybe that makes them feel better about some aspect of their own lives? I dunno.

In other words you are just saying I am wrong, go to the library. You aren't very good at this whole debating thing aren't you?

I'm just tired of debating with Americans who don't know anything about Canada's health care and health insurance systems but seem to think that they do. Gotten into too many debates that just turn into some random American(s) lecturing me on what a mess our health care/health insurance systems are. Kinda like what you seemed to be doing with that article.

Hell, most Americans don't seem to be able to understand that Canada's health care system is *not* a "socialized" health care system.

Again, if you really want to learn about how that stuff works up here, go to a library and do some serious research. You might be surprised what you discover. I actually have a list of some decent primary sources (from some old research of my own) buried away somewhere at home. If I have the time I'm willing to see if I can find it and suggest a few titles if you want.
