You are just flat out ignorant about the resources at your fingertips.

This. What may have taken hours and hours of painstaking searching in a library can now be accomplished in mere seconds on the net. Get with the times pal.

EDIT* And BTW, I do go to the library quite often. Funny thing is, when I go there, most people are...........wait for it...........ON THE COMPUTER!!!!

Yep, you goggle for a couple of minutes find a couple of on-line articles and you too can be an expert.

What does that have to do with refuting the link that showed Canada is experiencing wait times for procedures?

Matt Said
http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/wait-times-for-medical-treatment-getting-longer-report-1.1516817

Specifically, the average wait time for orthopedic surgery reached 39.6 weeks for treatment, while patients waited an average 17.4 weeks for an appointment with a neurosurgeon.

I posted the following link which does back up the info in the link Matt provided.

http://www.waittimealliance.ca/wta-reports/

All your diversions about going to a library to research in this thread are asinine and not working.

<sigh> no diversions, simply an honest suggestion based on an understanding that it takes more than 10 minutes of googling to actually, you know, learn something with a bit of depth.

But hey, you guys continue to be 10 minute experts and have fun.

Yes, this is a diversion. You don't like what I found so all you can do it criticize where and how quickly I found it. Otherwise with all that vast researching abilities you have you would have posted something that disputes what I posted. Instead it's more like if it took less than ten minutes to learn it must be wrong. I am not going to knock the library, but 9 times out of 10 I can find the data I am looking for on the net by the time you have your car started to even head to the library.

So you're assuming I found that link using a google search. I hate to tell you but you were betrayed by one of your countrymen who happens to be a colleague of mine that works in the company facilities in Alberta.

We had a long discussion in January after I placed an update on Linkedin concerning my rotator cuff repair surgery. He could not believe I was able to get surgery in 2 months specially with changing specialist mid way. He tore his rotatir cuff last September and had his surgery in February. I tore mine in November and my surgery was in December. He sent me that link to show most specialist visits and surgeries have long wait times in Canada.

:D Soooo true!!!
Plus, the scripts they write will kill you.
Right?
You did die shortly afterwards? ;)

Did you not see my post with the study that found the average wait time for orthopedic surgery reached 39.6 weeks?

Do you know why though? can you comprehend? We have basically the same high quality care as any 1st world country, it costs HALF of what America pays BECAUSE we cut out the insurance companys and EVERYBODY is covered. There is no medical bankruptcy or anything like that here in canada.

But the reason we have wait times is because of our corrupt politicians reducing budgets and not properly funding health care. They would rather spend billions on plane and tax breaks for their corperate buddies.

What's the average wait time in the US for someone that cannot afford it?

Forever ?

Exactly. My brother watches fox news and always say, "how come the king of saudi arabia goes to america for operations?" I try and tell him it's because he's got money and so he gets to cut line in America while real americans are denied proper healthcare. But he won't believe it until bill orielly tells him he can.

Do you know my colleague in Canada makes 25% less than I do and pays twice as much in taxes as I do. I pay a $300 a year deductible and then 20% for each visit or procedure until I hit a max out of pocket of $2,000. This $2,300 is less than the taxes my colleague pays that gets him his "free" medical.

Gee i wonder why he doesn't move there? I do know that 94% of Canadians want public healthcare and not usa style private insurance.

And that coverage is free? No premiums or anything? Is that the standard norm? As I'm thinking you'd need to add the premiums you pay to your taxes if you want a fair comparison.

And as a tax paying higher income Canadian I find the claim about taxes paid suspect.

It has nothing to do with the fact that we have the best healthcare in the world?

If you mean 'best' by the types of advanced procedures, then probably. If you mean best because of who and what it covers or the price of services, not a chance.

For all of the hoopla about how bad Canada's system, I have yet to find a Canadian (I spent 3 months there) who would trade theirs for ours. Hell, they literally laugh at the US system.

I pay $300/month for admin fees for a family. This is still less than what my colleague pays in taxes above me.

I work for a self insured company.

So an additional 3600 plus the deductibles. And the average American pays what, over $15,000 for a family? Are you suggesting your and his situation is representative? Because the actual numbers once costs of health care are added in tell a far different story.

There is a lot to be said for living in a country that has a social net that protects people. Poor don't get as poor if you know what I mean. Our healthcare, welfare (going down hill) systems might be one of the reasons we have less crime and much less prisoners as a percentage. We have about 15,000 in prison and America has 2 million prisoners? I just googled that... hard to believe.
