My friends and I did manage to score some rainchecks and the guy helping us also told us that OfficeMax has given out 12,000 rainchecks for this hard drive nationwide.

edit: hello page 5

I just got a call that the item for my raincheck has arrived.
Has anyone used their raincheck for $19.99 yet?
Any trouble or was is just $20 plus tax?

Sweet! I went down there today after work, and of course the shelf was empty. So I went up to the clerk and asked if they had any more in stock.........she proceeded to whip one out from below the counter --- said somebody had returned it (unopened). It's in my machine now....

80gb WD 8mb
+ Micros**t optical mouse
for ~ $30 after taxes & rebate.

I love it.

Ok, everyone LISTEN UP! Tonight at midnight the rebates will expire as to the last day they can be purchased. It's time to put some pressure on OM. Start calling your local OMs and ask what will happen to your rain check.

And also, keep bumpin' this thread. :D Best of luck to you all.

I got a raincheck Monday and was told that it would be proof for the rebates even if the drive came in after the 31st.

I talked to a OM manager yesterday and he told me that there were 20,000+ rainchecks outstanding and that Western Digital was going to ship more than enough to fill them all. He also said that they were extending the rebates for 60 additional days. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about.

I went back in to another OM today with a friend who wants one and they said no more rain checks. Thats the word off the mountain(corporate). Nothing about the rebate except OM will extend the time period. As for availability, you know the story. Some say they're discontinued while others say, as above, that WD will deliver. It's a wait and see game but many believe OM will come through.
BTW, when I was there today there were no 120GB WD hdds on the shelves. Sign said OOS. Either they're hoarding them for tomorrow or this is a sign of the future. I can't imagine nobody anticipated a land rush on a $20 80GB SE WD Caviar. Both WD and OM conspired on this offer as both rebates have the exact window of opportunity. I tend to believe that they'll come through. One can screw up big time but not both.

Irving, TX OM on Tues. volunteered that she could do a raincheck. Went to a pc, I believe got on the net, entered my brother's info, printed out the raincheck that showed $19.99 as the advertised price.

Southlake, TX OM on Thurs. did the same for a raincheck. I stopped by Fri. night, still no stock. The manager volunteered that if it was after the rebate period, the Out of Store price would be $19.99 plus tax. He even changed my incorrect phone number on his list for me. I asked if I could redeem it at another store, and he said he doubted it, because they would order by the number of hard drives needed.

Tucson, AZ OM Azzhole Manager told my Dad NO RAINCHECKS. I told him to grow a set, and he went back in and got a raincheck showing $79.99 as the final advertised price.

Texas OM good???? AZ OM bad???? AZ state just full of holes???? :)

Just called my local OM and to confirm that the rebate for the drive ends today (a concern for those of us w/ rain checks). He told me they didn't receive any drives in the shipment this week and that they'll offer the drive for $20 out the door when they are in stock. Yeeehaw!

I`m in SE TX and the local Office Max here in Beaumont has told us the same thing when the raincheck HD`s come in its $19.95 out the door... :D (dont have the phuck with the rebate`s)

Although I did jump on the WD 120gig 8 meg deal for tomorrow... I bought it tonight and the mgr said to just bring it back tomorrow and return and repurchase it and get the rebates... :) Final cost $49.95 and uncle Sam`s cut... :p

dasm! My OM got them back in stock, and charged me 79.99 on Friday night, since it was still within the rebate period.
I was so hoping to get it for $20 out the door!

On the WD rebate it has multiple offers and it says one per household or somesuch.
Does this mean you can only take advantage of one of the rebate offers on the form per household?

P.S. I went to a different OM tonight to see if I could get a last minute raincheck where they wouldn't have time to restock.
No dice. He said they had stopped giving out rainchecks since their buyer had only been able to purchase a certain number of drives.

He also said that they had 40 of the 120 giggers for tomorow's sale.

I work at an Office Max in the DFw area and here's what my manager told me:

He said we can do a rain check on the drive and that Western Digital has told us that they will still honor their rebate as long as they get a copy of the rain check with an appropriate date on it.

At least at this store, we are not selling them for $20 out the door no matter when they come in. However, OM is usually pretty good about eating money for its mistakes, so if the rebate gets rejected they would probably take care of the difference (maybe only with a gift card, though).

Sounds like policy isn't very standardized from store to store.

Drives finally arrived at my store in Austin. Was charged the sale price ($79.99) with the assurance that the rebates will be honored so long as I send a copy of my rain check with the forms. Makes me a little nervous, as there are 2 rebates ($30 + $30) to mail different places. However, OfficeMax has come through every time for me, although sometimes it takes a little prodding.

I also got a call from my Austin OM. (Was it the one on I-35...around the 2222 exit?). I'm not sure I want to pick up the drive if I'm going to have to file these rebates after their printed dates.

Well then it's a B&M'er. My local OM said they'll sell it for $20 OTD.
