WD 80gb Hard Drive 19.99 @ Office Max - after mail in rbt

Office Max is having some crazy sales and they're selling an 80gb Western Digital hard drive for 19.99??? are they INSANE?

Went and picked one up today. Thanks.

The employees were already acting funning when I asked for it. They had removed the little slips from the clear envelopes that are attached to the display box on the shelf. This is usually an indication that the item is not in stock. However, that didn't stop me. I asked for one and they had a little conference (all employees wear headsets and talk with each other from all over the store). After a few glances back and forth between themselves, one went "into the back room" and brought one out. I guess the lowest man on the employee totem pole lost out...

talk about shady

The ad which we are directed to farther down indicates that the item is for sale from the 25th to the 30th. Did you get all the rebate forms, even though you bought "early"?

The rebate forms you can either get online (see thread at chubbywallet for links), or from the rebate form booklet OM gives out.

How do you rebuy? Do you just take it up to the customer service and tell them you don't want it, comeback later and get it?? 😕

No. I just tell them that "I bought this earlier but now its cheaper plus there are rebates. Would you mind if I returned this but buy it back right away so that I can get the rebates?" I've always acted politely and they've never hassled me.

Yep. Just tell them that you just bought this drive last week and noticed that it was on sale this week. Can you return/repurchase the drive, so you can get the instant rebate and qualify for the mail in rebates. I've never had a problem with this. At the time that you do the repurchase, the rebates will spit out of the register and you will get your rebate receipts.

My local Officemax will even honor an instant rebate for the sale next week if you buy it late Saturday. They usually have the sale tags out by then. They can't do anything about the mail in rebates because of the date on the receipt. I had this happen a couple of weeks ago. I went in late Saturday to pick up some dvd media and the guy at the register said that he can give me the instant rebate right now, but I'll have to come back sometime with my receipt during the sale next week and have them return and rebuy it, so I qualify for the mail in rebates. The store CSR even said to do this.

You are only buying early to ensure that you get the drive. A deal like this will be sold out in minutes after the doors open on Sunday.

yep, just got back with my hdd. they removed all the slips to make it look like they're out of stock on these. after i asked for one, they went in the back and brought one out for me.

all you do is go back in and tell them you just bought it, and would like the sale price. it's a great way to guarantee that it'll be in stock for YOU 😀

Bought a couple earlier this evening. The store manager informed me that they will be 19.99 AR starting Sunday and told me to come back then for the adjustment. One excellent deal IMO.

Same thing happened to me. Store manager was real nice.

Got mine today. They are not Special Edition as advertised. The Special Edition has a 3 year waranty where as the regular has a 1 year warranty. Still one heck of a deal IMHO.

They are the SE drives. WD changed their policy as well even on the SE drives. They are all now only 1 year warranties.

Retail "SE's" have one-year warranties now, according to WD's site. Bare or OEM SE's have the full three years, and they're obviously much more expensive.

The CD burner is always out of stock too. If you ask they will sub a KyberMedia or PacificDigital for the same
price. They keep them in the back. If you don't ask, you wont get any. Usually there are two mail in rebates,
this time one is an instant rebate.

Since they've been advertising the $9.99 CDRW for weeks now, I bet its sort of a potluck on what's available in store (hence why they haven't specifically advertised it as Khypermedia or Microadvantage).
