I just picked up my raincheck WD 80gb drive last night at the Exton, PA OM store. I triple grilled the store manager about the rebate. He assured me that it would still be honored, but to send it in quickly. One plus is that WD issued a memo yesterday stating that all who bought the drive at OM during the special will get an automatic no charge upgrade from the 1 year warranty to the 3 year warranty. This is because the advertisment pictured the three year warranty on the drive box. I assume that OM and WD don't want any go-rounds with the FTC. You have to register your drive with WD to get the warranty upgrade.

Now, when and if the rebates will come back ....... ???????

Good luck all.

Hmmm, I had 2 rain checks issued by 2 different OfficeMax:

The first OfficeMax called me yesterday to tell my my raincheck came due and to caim my 80g WD. They sold me the drive @ $80. I do not have to turn in the 2 rebates, in place of the two, they issues me a new rebate for $60 to turn into OfficeMax.

The second OfficeMax also called me....... they sold me the drive @ $70 and issued me 1 new rebate for $50 to turn into OfficeMax..... BUT, the rebate states "for purchase between 2/15 to 2/21...... guess I'll have to stop back in and get the correct form. Wounder if they gave me the rebate for this weekend?

Its great for OfficeMax to coutinue to fill all these rainchecks out there! Just wish they had a consistant rebate story between stores.

Got off work tonight, had a voicemail.
check the vm and its a lady from officemax,
she left a voicemail saying;
they got my drive in and they would honor the rebates in store so I wouldn't have to send them in,
and I could pick it up whenever, she said this all on my voicemail.
I saved that voicemail baby!!
I have her on tape saying $20 out the door !!

Well I have a different story. I get the call saying its in, so I go to the store, I show them my raincheck, they go grab a drive from the stack they have sitting on the floor. I ask about the rebates, she said there was a new one issued for $60, she hands me the form, looks good. I take the drive home, was filling it out and noticed that the SKU on the rebate(20339475) does not match the SKU on the drive and on my receipt (718037104362). What are they trying to pull? They want me to cut the UPC off the box so that I can't return it? I'm going back to insist on the $20 OTD.

I picked up the drive & got the same single rebate form for $60. I didn't notice the different sku & already mailed it. This is a rebate I will definitely monitor.

I called up about 3 days ago. I was #54 on the list to get one. Since no one was coming to pick them up that the mgr. had already called, I went that night and he gave me one. He wouldn't let me OTD for $20 but he ASSURED me that I need to send in both $30 rebates to OM and WD respectively (something about registering online would expedite the process). I am now seeing a lot of talk about the single $60 only rebate to OM. Anyone know if OM is going to send out an official word on the status of all this mess?

Thanks!

For the people who got a raincheck, did you have to fill out a form? My OM just took our name and phone number. I'm hoping since I don't have a raincheck "form" that they'll let me have it for $20 OTD. But as of late this afternoon they still claim not to have gotten the drives :( OM rebates seem to average about 12 weeks or more. Very disappointed with that.

When I received my raincheck, they entered all my information and printed a sheet and gave it to me.

when I picked it up, I just had to give em that sheet and bam $19.99 + tax out the door :D

i asked if i can get more than one (since they pulled hdd out of a box which there were about 8 boxes), and he said they are all for rainchecks :)

I just got a call from my local OM and he spoke about a $60 rebate, but whether 2 $30s or 1 $60... didn't ask.

Got a call this afternoon from my OM (Batavia, IL) and I went in and got both of the drives I had rainchecks for. It's a single $60 rebate now. It says that it applies to all purchases of that drive before 2/28. After 2/28 you'll have to include a copy of the raincheck.

I was hoping to score these for $20 out the door, but hey, considering I never thought they'd even call on the rainchecks to begin with I am fine with all of this.

There was some mention of a 3 year warranty, both of mine have a 1 year on them. Still clearly better drives than the 2 deskstars I'm replacing!

So they told you that to get the rebate back, you had to include a copy of the raincheck from OM? Ugh. the manager mentioned nothing of that to me. What a pain. He assured me several times that OM knew of this situation and would honor them. The fact that some MGRs are giving it for $20 otd and some aren't is so inconsistent. You would think that corporate would send out some consistent communication to the stores and have them all follow the same process. We shall see I guess.......I just better get my 2 $30 rebates! The one from WD I am VERY weary about now....

Welp, got a call on Friday. They told me that I'll be getting the drive for 80 bucks with 60 dollar MIR. I responded that I am no longer interested... since I've already reserved about 80 dollar for a particular 12" tall Transformers toy. Oh well. There goes my dream of a RAID-0 setup.

Corporate sucks butt. I get the call and they tell me its gonna be $20 otd, so I go in the next day to pick it up. Then they tell me they get word from corporate that they now have to give out the $60 MIRs instead. Talk about dropping the ball, being inconsistent like that is what pisses people off, especially after they TOLD me it was $20 otd, I only had $30 on my, and instead had to use my CC. :|

Nope, not what I said. Just to clarify, the rebate form says that you ONLY have to include the raincheck IF your drives aren't paid for BY 2/28. Before that time you don't have to include them.

Make sense??

I stopped my my OM and my HD came in. They had to check to see if I was next in line. At #3 I was :) On the day of the sale they only took my name and phone number, no form to fill out. I got it for $21.50 OTD :) :) :) No rebate hassle.

So now there're $50 AND $60 rebates floating around out there? OM Corporate seems to be in complete disarray.

Has anyone tracked their $30/$30 rebates yet? I imputed my info online and it doesn't have any info. I mailed them as soon as I got the drive.

I got a call yesterday from the store again. They had not tracked who picked up their drive and who hadn't. I spoke with the representative in detail and she had referred to the new single $60 rebate. She said that either way, you'll get your rebate checks (sending in the dual $30 rebates or the single $60 one). I also asked about registering online and she stated that it would expedite the process if I registered online.

Sorry, had more to say...

When we are talking about registering online, do we mean on OfficeMax's website or at Western Digital's website? There are two registrations. One is with the manufacturer to let them know when to begin the warranty period. The other is through the OfficeMax rebate center.

I assume registering with Western Digital will get me the alleged 3 yr warranty due to the advertisement. Registering both rebates through OfficeMax's website should expedite the rebate auditing process. Does this sound correct? Thanks.

Did the raincheck thing on 1/31 and got the drive yesterday - the receipt printed with the $50 rebate form but the CSR was quick to acknowledge that the correct form (the $60) was different and handed it to me. Not as lucky as those that paid $20 + tax OTD but it is still an excellent deal. I have not had any problems with OM rebates so far. Thanks for the tip, guys!!
