Watching Stargate SG1 Season 1 . . .

Dang, they all look so young. O'Neill and Carter especially. I think Teal'c and Jackson 'aged' the best, at least physically. Amanda Tapping didn't look so good in the opening eps of SGU, but she looks great in the early SG1 eps.

She looked the worst in the stargate movies that followed the series. WAY too much makeup.

I sometimes marvel that SG1 became as popular as it did, the first few episodes were pretty rough. (Richard Anderson saved it IMO)

Yes, always amusing. 🙂

"I'm hungry."

We are actually in the middle of watching Season 1 as well, since my wife has never seen many of the episodes. It is amazing to me watching the first season the direction the show took in later seasons

And it was generally a good direction 🙂 You can't beat the humor the writers (and I think actors) injected into the show. It was like the perfect blend of syfi, comedy, and action. It stayed good right up to about season 7 or 8 (once the original cast started leaving is when things really took a downhill turn.)

I think the show faced cancellation around that time, so they kind of turned it into a different series. Sucks how TV shows have to tailor their stories around that kind of unpredictability.

And of course, some shows just STOP.
"Reboot" wound up ending the series on a cliffhanger.🙁

John Doe did that too. 🙁

SG-1 over time had some of the best universe-building and mutli-season continuity, right up there with Buffy/Angel and Babylon 5.

It fell apart a bit once Ben Browder took over from RDA, but that's at least partly because the writers made him so dull in comparison (not to mention in comparison to John Crichton). Still, the Or'i arc had its moments.

SGU just got added to Netflix streaming so I may finally give it a try.

I really liked SG-1...if Buffy/Angel/Babylon5 are up there, I should watch those too. Hmm.

Very different shows, but all had sharp writing and good characters.

Season 1 of Babylon 5 had some weak acting in it, though perhaps not any episodes as bad as the Planet of Mongol Chauvinist Pigs that Carter had to teach feminism to in season 1 of SG1 🙂 . But it also introduced strands of plot that would be woven into the next 3 seasons.

OMG the time loop episode...with O'Neil driving golf balls through the gate. I seriously crack up every time I watch that episode. It's got so much Groundhog Day goodness.

lol, I love that episode! I also got a kick out of the "Wormhole X" series that they ran a couple of episodes on, Awesome that they were able to make fun of themselves so well :awe:

The later seasons have their moments. I still crack up when I see the S10 episode where O'Neill interrogates Prior-Daniel.

They all aged pretty well.

Having watched Farscape and SG-1 though, I always felt Claudia Black never looked great for her age(s). It's pretty bad considering she is the youngest of the group.

If they had written Ben's character just like John Crighton, it would have been seriously badass. It was sad seeing Browder and Black on screen not having the same chemistry they had as Crighton and Aeryn Sun.

I just recently re-watched an epi from the last season where Vala's father shows up.

They had an AWESOME scene where Carter tells the Dad the Stargate program just doesn't get the funding it used to. When the Dad asks why, Dr. Bill in background screams "Eureka" in response to something he is doing.
Then Vala's Dad says that's too bad, considering how much the Stargate program has done for "this NETWORK of planets"

Maybe the best dig at a network I have ever heard. Too bad I can't find an online video of it.
