However, China is vowing "strong measures" as retaliation, according to Time Magazine.

China needs to understand that this aint no third world country they can bully. This is the U.S.A the most powerful nation on this earth. Pelosi called their bluff and now this is the second paper tiger to be exposed.

China has been saying the same shit since the fifties. If anything they were more serious then.

I am quite pleased that a few F/A-35 pissed Chinese a few hours before and they just can't do Jack about it..
I saw a report that they took off along with several tankers hours before her arrival from a base in Japan performing escort duty. I'm sure that there were Raptors somewhere in the vicinity too with some F-15EX's in tow.

Why should we fight China? Why should our young people be cannon fodder for Egos? Nancy doesn't need to go to Taiwan for any reason other than to provoke a conflict. STUPID.
China is like the jealous and possessive ex-bf who got dumped by Taiwan. And like a delusional psychopath ex-bf who thinks threatening his ex-gf and any potential man in her life with violence will somehow make the ex-gf come back to him.

You can be a coward and cater to the psychopath, or just be a decent human being and stand up to that type of behavior. But I do understand that you're already conditioned to fearmongering by the right-wing media.

Sooner the world becomes less reliant on Taiwan semiconductors the better. Absolutely nuts to have such an important piece of modern day technology produced next to a country like China.

No one would care about Taiwan, if there aren't several very important TSMC production facilities/FAB-s.

"eyes wide shut business"

If someone wants to "hm destroy Taiwan", there is no need for any clasic invasion.Just launch(from China) a few dozen rockets(or 100+)on TSMC FAB-s, and you destroyed the most strategically valuable thing in Taiwan.TSMC out of business or destroyed, it is hard to imagine Taiwan without the very successful TSMC business.

If TSMC(destroyed or badly damaged)stopped production today, it would very soon cause a crisis of epic proportions+shortage and astronomical prices.

For now, TSMC is globally crucial business even for China as well. But things will change no doubt. In the future, we can constantly expect serious strategic tensions between China(in reality China vs west)and Taiwan.

Oh No..! I am sure Pelosi will be shaking on her boots.

I wouldn't have been "relaxed" on the flight in and I'm pretty sure she wasn't either despite the chances of actually getting messed with being close to nil.

Big time.... and you are 100% correct if China doesn't care about sacrificing Taiwan's tech-industry (and gimping the world including themselves in the process) they can take Taiwan completely out with minimal losses.

The good news is that (for now anyway) they very much DO care and will not give up those fabs.

I guarantee Pelosi is more concerned walking into the capitol on a daily basis than she was flying into Taiwan.

THATS not saying much! :p ;)

(sounds like common sense these days!)

EDIT: Note there are probably more guns within a mile of the DC Capital then in all of Taiwan! Seriously not sure if you've been there but you're in disturbingly close proximity to the literal "hood".

After seeing what happened to Russia’s supposedly fearsome armed forces in Ukraine I would definitely take a wait and see approach to unproven militaries.

I only wish she went there with a giant parade of elephants, monkey with trumpets, and a marching band waving the Taiwanese flag. The parade will be headed by a dude in a Winnie the Pooh outfit of course

Lame as Russia's conventional military has proven overall I have little doubt that even they can make a few big "booms" if they really get pissed. Even if two-thirds of their ICBM's failed to launch we would still be wiped out 10x over. (by "we" I mean nearly all humans)

I only have slightly more faith that the Chinese military OVERALL is capable of winning a major war (even with a second-tier European power like Britain or France) but I have no doubt they could seriously ruin Taiwan's whole day short-term.

And that assumes they don't want to use a tactical nuke themselves due to proximity. (and MAD)

A mass landing on Taiwan by seizing your entire domestic fishing fleet seems like an exceptionally poor idea. First, you would be telegraphing your intentions a country mile away. Second, you would decimate your entire fishing industry. Third, fishing boats would make very poor landing craft.

Also, I think you may overestimate the interest in the average Chinese fisherman to steam across the strait in the face of massive and accurate firepower deployed against you. The PLAN isn't going to be operating those boats so what happens when they owners decide to go home?
The whole western side of Taiwan is a fortress.

I could have sworn those were obsolete back in the middle-ages? ;)

Seriously in every single military exercise I'm aware of run by the US, Taiwan goes down in hours to at most a day or two without direct and large-scale intervention. (and virtually all of these assumed China wanted to KEEP Taiwan intact not level it and build back "fresh")
