Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who was recovered in Afghanistan last spring after five years in captivity, faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, according to his lawyer.

Eugene Fidell, Bergdahl’s attorney, told The Washington Post that his client was handed a charge sheet on Tuesday.

When someone is in captivity the US should treat them as innocent until proven guilty if there are questions. More often than not I would rather they err on the side of caution and bring them home to face trial.

If the military finds reason to believe Bergdahl deserted his Army comrades, consequences will be delivered, Rice said.


"But in the meantime, let's remember this is a young man who volunteered to serve his country. He was taken as a prisoner of war. He suffered in captivity," she continued. "He's now trying to begin the process of recovery. Let's let that happen. And then let's know the facts including his side of the story, and then we can make a judgment."

Or the fact that Obama violated US law in doing this.

Or the international law we broke.



There is a right and wrong way to do things. Hiding behind the veil of protecting the innocent is stupid and ignorant.
 
Good. I am glad the Army pushed past the White House holding this crap up. Now we can find out where it all goes. From what I have read and seen on the news My Opinion is he is a coward and more than likely guilty as sin. Even if he gets the maximum ( Life ) he will be getting off light.
 
man he should get the nobel peace prize for setting the example for what ALL citizens should do when their gov starts a war on behalf of american corporations
 
Obviously the Army has no way of tying the deaths to Bergdahl or the charges brought against him would have reflected such. None the less I don't see him getting less than 30 years in jail if found guilty of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.
 
so far they haven't actually decided to go to trial him yet so imo not really 'charged'. what he is facing is basically the military equivalent to a grand jury, and if they find cause to proceed then they will.


and we have the usual suspects 'supporting the troops' by sending them to war everywhere and then when they f-up like this Bergdahl character they want the sodlier lynched!


the people in this thread that are so interested in prosecuting this guy should look at themselves and think about how exactly it feels to be a soldier and to know that if something happens overseas they will have millions clamoring for your head. you are full of it, you don't support the troops at all. you are just another partisan hack and worse yet, you use the death of our soldiers overseas to further your bs political machinations.

Did anyone really believe Bergdahl didn't leave of his own free will?
