I wouldn't call being 18 yrs to mean your 100% developed mentally. Look around, do you not see all the immature and mentally retarded 20-50 + yr olds out there? I was more mature at 14 than some I know. Mentally being adult doesn't happen at the flick of a switch when turning 18. There are many teens out there that are very well mentally developed, they are generally just viewed as smart kids.

The average human brain, if you are discussing every last section of the brain, does not fully mature until the mid to late 20s (on average). For this topic of conversation, it's also the section of the brain with the most impact on who you are that matures last - the prefrontal cortex.
 
Do you guys really think 16 year old teens are innocent children?

Girls mature much faster than males and at 16 years old, most of them are vicious things anyway.

To people that ask whats the difference between a 16 and 18? If its your daughter thats the difference. Even 16 and 20 gap, the difference becomes your concern if its your daughter.

bullshit, so you stop being concerned as a parent the day she turns 18? If you disapprove of the relationship at 16, you'll still likely have a problem with it at 18.

You should always be concerned about the wellness and safety of your children, be they 10 or 40. At some point, you have to let them decide things for themselves, hand them over to the world and hope that a) you raised them right, and b) you can still exert some positive influence if you ever feel its necessary. If you accomplished a), you can probably do b). 🙂

At what age parents step back has changed all throughout history, to both younger and older standards. To go truly off of brain maturity (especially decision making), we should baby the youngin's until 25. How's that? I mean hell, you can't rent a car until then anyway. Obviously that's when the rest of the world truly accepts we're capable adults, but not a moment before. 😛

You are wrong. Where did I say that? I don't know about others but I never stop being a parent and will never let my daughter go with an older person. Hence my statement.
