Warning: Nvidia GPUs do not play well with others

For me AMD drivers are plagued by bags and problems, a lot more then in past when i was only on NV
I also plan to move to NV again soon, and I hope your problem is just yours and due your windows configuration/driver ex catalist garbage

Atm I am mining on AMD and using intel for 2nd monitor, there are menay small problems but most are solved by workaround, so I would never say AMD had better driver then NV, maybe you just was unlucky

Yeah I never understood why people complain about AMD's drivers. I don't notice a difference.

So you are using a mixed system that AMD isn't used for the rendering, but for mining, and you are having AMD driver issues? Sorry, that doesn't really make a lot of sense.

What is this "ex Catalyst garbage"?

AMD had bad drivers for a long time. Need we discuss the crap release drivers for the 7970..........I won't go earlier than that to make it simple for you. AMD has within the last couple of years got their act together IMO.

Nope, issues persist after a fresh reinstall of Windows and a BIOS update.

If you also need to use two display controllers, I would advise strongly against switching over to Nvidia. The "many small problems" you're experiencing (and I used to experience) are nothing compared to what could be in store for you if you switch.

This is mostly a driver issue. Nvidia doesn't care about D3D9 performance anymore, while AMD still optimize for it. When a new game only use D3D9 it will be faster on Radeon, simply because the more optimized drivers.

Personally, i've had more issues with Nvidia software than AMD (apparently i'm not the only one)... but that's just me. Given your graphics configuration is closer to what i have, i'd wager that you may want to find out about limitations with the Intel hardware/ software you use. Trust me when i say that some of the limitations that i have are completely down to Intel software (especially in the graphics department), like resolutions over hdmi etc. It is nothing but rather a deceitful way to sell more chips. Heck, they removed 4k video support in the latest driver i tried a couple of months ago, so i went back to older one and presto.

Once again, not having compatibility issues with other hardware, specifically the most abundant display controllers in the world (Intel) is not a feature, it's a fundamental tenant of PC architecture.

My last work PC ran flawlessly with Intel and NV gpus over 3 screens, I think he was talking about your HDMI requirement not being supported in your format!

It seems like what you need is something that can convert digital-out to HDMI sound. Sort of the opposite of what this can do:

It looks like it can take S/PDIF Digital Coax or Digital Optical Toslink Audio and convert it to HDMI.

If you go over to GameGPU.ru and check performance of AMD vs. NV in the last 20 DX9 games, 7970Ghz crushes the 680. I've been tracking this for the last 2 years ever since Tom's Hardware made a ridiculous remark off 1 game that AMD cards have issues in DX9. In older games, less popular games, most recent OpenGL games and DX9 games, AMD's performance is better when looking at competing SKUs. NVidia tends to perform better when raw horsepower is in play (780Ti vs. 290X) or it's a very popular title, especially a GW/NV-sponsored title (COD, AC, Crysis 3). Of course none of this matters since you could have bought 2x 290 for the price of a single 780Ti and yet now 970 SLI is recommended over 980 but 2x290 was largely ignored by 780Ti owners.

I've been using both NV and AMD for a long time and I can't agree that NV is miles ahead. As I said, there are plenty of games where both have issues but NV users have a tendency to be quiet and sweep NV performance/bugs under the rug to maintain the allure of "superior drivers". If you read forum reviews and feedback from NV owners, there are plenty of reports of failed SLI scaling, crashes in games, poor performance, just the same as for AMD users. It just depends on the driver, game and GPU model.

For example if you played Arma3 for years, AMD was the only game in town. It took NV forever to get performance of that game up-to-speed on their cards.

Look at the Guru3D 970 SLI review and the dropped frames and then read the excuses when it's nVidia.

I'm not too worried. First driver on launch is sure to have some issues.

god forbid NVidia being allowed to make mistakes at launch. in bold.

Early drivers, fully expect this to be fixed.

Not sure about sli being tweaked to the point where frame delivery is BETTER than single-gpu, though.

LOL we are talking about release drivers for a new architecture. AMD had their issues forever, long after any architecture was released. (Refer to Scott Wasson's first reports and look how long the architectures he tested were out.) I think you need to give Nvidia a little more time than two weeks to sort out any driver discrepancies. Unless you feel that is out of the question and deplorable and wish to go on slandering them and how they don't care about their customers.

Its the same in politics, people criticize the "other camp" not because of ideology or logic, but just because its the "other camp".

Bad drivers? Did AMD drivers killed cards in Star Craft 2 (AAA game like that, how did those NV drivers made it pass QA?)?

Bad hardware? Wasn't long ago NV had to release drivers to fix exploding GTX570 and 590, locking out vcore mod because they designed such crap hardware.

I recall the 570 having some issues, but the 590 problem was fixed fast and I don't think it surfaced in the field.

I wasn't making an excuse (and for the record I have been on AMD for the past 5+ years). Driver hiccups can and do happen at launch. That said, I do mean what I wrote. I EXPECT this to be fixed and quick, especially after Tom Peterson (spelling?) all but gloated about NV's frame delivery advances only a few months ago.

Neither is perfect, SLI and Crossfire especially. I vowed to stick to single cards after having problems with both camps when running dual gpus.

Just an update, latest GeForce drivers (334.60) seem to have solved the issue. The first time I tried to install the new drivers they caused my system to hang during install, which was worrisome, but after the second time everything seems to be peachy 🙂

Neither are perfect but I have had more issues with AMD drivers, plus I find I can generally achieve better IQ with Nv - either via CP or 3rd party tools.

Nvidia's drivers failed in such a spectacular fashion that I'm now forced to do a fresh install of Windows. Why exactly should I give them a second chance?

Had both a 6990 and a 6850 do this to me , blue screen of death that basically destroyed the partition. I was one of those Amd gpu haters back during the 6000 days. Didn't learn and got a 7970 after launch and had the sleep bug issue..

Eventually had a rig with dual 670s, hdmi audio from nvidia was trash and barely worked and eventually i ended up with another rig with a 7850 and personally Amd fixed their drivers so well that 7850 ended up being my baby. Tried another 670 and had stuttering in BF3 so bad i went back to my 7850 till it failed....

Best overclocking card ever was that 7970, 1200+ core wasn't a issue while practically all my nvidia cards refuse to do anything even remotely close to typically known....including 3 different 670s, a gtx650 and even my old 770.

You simply could have any sort of issue in either camp, things turn around then sometimes things get fixed or broken.

I remember Anand doing an article about their monthly releases braking games the next month as they had 2 different test suites. They got slammed for it, it was around 4 or 5 series I think. Then there was the 7 series that was laughable, but not as funny as AMD fans claiming NV have the worst drivers.
TBF, AMD have certainly picked up their ideas the last couple of years, and now have conparible drivers.
