warhammer MMO Review

Played beta for like 3 hours, so this is more of just a first impression.

This will be the next #1 MMO worldwide

My most favourite new addition? Public quests. You seriously just walk into them and start hackin away with everyone else. Quite fun. No hours of group searching needed, just jump in and go. No complicated quest searching and accepting, none of it is needed at all.

PVP sites are great, sort of Guild War's ish

Questing is very very similar to WoW, almost feels like you are playing the same game.

Combat is fun, but nothing new, again exactly like WoW.

I hope not, I love the Warhammer universe and would hate to see it slaughtered by whatever 'storyline' mythic and the players come up with. It was hard enough watching the Warcraft storyline die, Warhammer... I'm not sure I could stand it.

Oh, if thats the case then, you will need a barfbag of epic proportions.

The only thing that made me realize this was warhammer universe was the loading screen

They said the same thing about Age of Conan, and it failed.

Making a game exactly like WoW is not a good way to make a successful game. You need to be DIFFERENT, BETTER, and introduce a novel concept such as GAMEPLAY!

Until then.

I still have more fun playing EQ1 than anything introduced since oh lets say. 2001.

This game isn't as good as WoW, but it's more fun right now because WoW has been stale and boring for a while. Some keybinds are broken, you start out with only access to 1 battleground, the casting is very badly done with no lag compensation and lots of delays between spells, the graphics are bad -- even with all options at full, yet the game has a larger memory footprint than WoW (I'm running both concurrently), many mobs bug out on the terrain, and class balance is nonexistent. On the plus side, group quests are accessible and fun, having the option to level and gear up through pvp exclusively is nice, normal quests are marked clearly and easy to pick up, and it is close enough to WoW for any WoW fan to pick up and enjoy for a while.

Not a WoW killer, but it'll be a fun distraction till WoW expansion comes out.

I don't like the chunky dated graphics, and I hate how the class I want to play is always tied to a race I don't want to.

This is NOT the game I saw/played at PAX - nothing like it. The game I'm playing now feels like a mix of LOTRO graphics with some WoW gameplay/combat thrown in for good measure.

As karioskasra stated - this is a fun distraction until the next xpac for WoW is released.

Man, blizzard really has you guys trained and neutered huh?

Well, considering the reviewers haven't played the game long enough to even make it out of starter areas, it is expected.

Never played WARMMO, played WoW til 60 back when that was the cap. If my friend who is an MMO whore feels inclined to buy me the game and an account like he did for WoW I will extend WAR the same opportunity to dismally fail.

One thing that I took away from my experience with AoC is that I need to know what life is like outside the sandbox that is the starting area of all MMOs. I'll give this game a serious look around Christmas. By then it should be mature enough and be reviewed enough to garner an interest.

-Keybinds fix is in the works.
-You can access 3 different battlegrounds at start, just group with people of a different race.
-Casting has dramatically improved with the most recent patch.
-The graphics are locked and the highest settings are not available at this time.
-Larger memory footprint? Youre in a beta and the client is running debug code...
-Pathing fixes are in the works
-I havent seen any overwhelmingly broken classes in PvP.

- Every MMO is always "in the works." The only thing that matters is how it compares against its competition at this current point in time, though there is always a possibility of a secret ultra-patch that will fix everything by the time the game's released in 9 days.
- Casting right now in Open Beta is terrible and I don't know how much worse it could have been before this.
- You are right about the graphics. I just tried all the settings and there was no change.
- I'm sure the client they're releasing in 9 days will be much more efficient and stable.
- I walked around as a bright wizard with my healer friend and we destroyed everybody when we were at levels 1-3 (normalized to 8, facing multiple normalized levels 8-10). This didn't happen when I used other classes with him. The class needs a serious nerf. Certain other classes, like the high elf archer-type, need buffs, especially since pet control is lacking and pet pathing is terrible.
- While it's true you have access to 3 battlegrounds at the start, you need to have a friend in another race grouped up with you logged on at the same time queueing together. This is not what I mean by being accessible. You also, in all practicality, won't be able to do battleground quests for all 3 BGs -- just your own, so there's little financial/xp incentive to play anything other than the one BG you're at.
- I only compared this to WoW as it is its obvious competition. Most of the problems I saw with WAR aren't going away at higher levels. It is in no way a bad game -- in fact it's very fun. Its main problem is it tries to be WoW, and it's not going to beat WoW at being WoW. I believe if there is going to be a WoW-killer it's going to have to be different enough to stand on its own (KOTOR mmo is looking promising.)

And Maleficus, you sound like a very miserable person. Why play something you don't like or are sure it's going to fail? Pick something you enjoy and do it, it'll make you happier.

The beta is pretty fun...but the graphics are dated IMO....things are clunky, I noticed a few bugs where people would glide everywhere...you cant jump over certain things.

I love the 'rvr??' concept...seems interesting....all the achievements that get you XP are a nice add-on.

I think that WoW still has better graphics then warhammer though...unless they plan to release better graphics, I may have to pass on warhammer ... (hopping onto AoC pre-order makes me warry of any and all new MMO's...I even tried out AoC before it came out too).

The way you quest is awesome though, shows you where to go on the map and such.

War wont die like AOC, it will IMO be very successfull, it wont do better then WoW, i think at this point the only thing that will kill WoW is blizzards own stupidity

also to those bitching about graphics, WAR looks fine IMO, so does wow, you cant make a MMO with Crysis like graphics its just not gonna work, gameplay > graphics and WAR is a great example of that

But the same cartoony graphics? IMO, WoW's surpasses what I ahve seen in warhammer so far... but because it's a beta, maybe they are not using the engine fully.

In that starting city, the graphics could handle over 100 people on the screen at the same time with zero issues...and I had everything maxed out.

Is there a way to check FPS, or latency to the server?

most people dont have an issue with the cartoony graphics, personally IMO the slightly cartoony graphics are better they trying to make everything super realistic

I am not saying I hate it Anubis...I am saying that graphically WoW would be superior in the cartoony area and has been around for years now...there has got to be better cartoon character engines by now 😛...I mean, half the people were gliding on my screen.
