Well since the game won't be out for another half decade it doesn't much matter!

<< Your computer must be at least a Pentium III 600 (or equivalent), with 128 MB RAM or more.
Your computer must have a mouse, 400 MB of available hard drive space, a 4X CD-ROM or faster, a 32 MB 3D accelerator card with Direct3D support, a DirectX compatible 16 bit sound card, a 28.8 modem (or better) with Internet connectivity, and DirectX 8.1.
You must be running Windows 98, 98SE, 2000 (running with local Administrator privileges), ME, or XP to play the Warcraft® III: Reign of Chaos? beta on your system.
Your Internet connection must be capable of running 32-bit Windows socket applications (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer).
You must have a valid e-mail address.
>>

By the time this comes out those are entirely reasonable. Most people will have a 600 or faster CPU and even fairly low-cost systems have a 32 meg junker video card. These are perfectly reasonable. You want stupid - look at the new everquest expansion that recommends 512 megs. That's ridiculous.

<< In addition, please note that you will be prompted to download an ActiveX file during the registration process that will provide Blizzard with the system configuration of the computer from which you apply and intend to play the Warcraft® III: Reign of Chaos? beta. Specifically, Blizzard will only be recording CPU, RAM, operating system, video card, and sound card information from your computer. Your system configuration data will be linked with your personal registration data. The reason we are collecting this information is to make sure that we select users with a wide variety of hardware configurations that meet the minimum requirements to participate in the beta test. By submitting your application, you hereby acknowledge that the aforementioned data will be collected and grant Blizzard permission to collect such data. >>

Very nice. I like this approach...people can't lie about their specs then.

Skoorb, I doubt it'll be half a decade. i got to participate in the diablo 2 beta and the game came out shortly after the beta was done. Isn't it due in november? I know they've pushed it back before, but Blizzard's public betas are usually pretty solid.

Have you seen the space requirements for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon?

alot of ordinary users have alot slower computers 300-500 rnage mostly I guess. The people want them to lower the requirements, but damn they dont understand that it's probably barely playable with the min specs, even if they lower them the game wont run fast enough damn some people(well most actually) are stupid... and this is good for us... if 50% of the people are disqualified by their sucky compuyters we have abetter chance of getting in :D

ok so people bitch about the minimum requirements. and then people like us bitch when they arent high enough. no wonder developers are going to consoles. how do you expect them to put out better games on your piece of ass computer? suck it up, computer gaming is BIG ASS EXPENSIVE. it sucks that people cant afford to upgrade to the latest thing, but i also hate having games that dont push the limit because they have to be designed to run on your mothers p2 266. :|

if im going to dump hundreds of bucks every few months to upgrade my pc id like to have something that uses it's abilities.

Diablo II was made with minimal requirements in mind. The quality complaints that blizzard got obviously made them think twice before doing that again.

At some point people must realize their POS P2-233s just don't cut it anymore at least for gaming. This group is holding us us back more than they should.

That said, Warcraft is by Blizzard. Their audience is the mass market (the P2-233 crowd). So I can understand why Joe Sixpack is complaining.

Exactly. Everyone bitched and moaned because Diablo II didn't look that great, now I bet the same people are bitching about the system requirements for Warcraft III. People need to realize that you can't have a great looking game with super AI that will work on grandma's Packard Bell with the P2 in it, plus satisfy all the gamers who demand the best. Like Bruno said, no wonder some developers are jumping at the chance to develop for consoles. They don't have to play the system requirement game, trying to please every freaking person out there because they bitch if a game doesn't work on their Pentium II 300 system with the Voodoo2.

After the craptacular support of Diablo2, they can keep their future games, I won't be buying them.
