I don't think the specs Blizzard is asking for are out of line. Aside from the 32meg vid card requirement, even my in-laws lowly machine I built for them a year and a half ago would qualify for the beta test. I don't blame Blizzard in the least for asking for a minimum for the beta test. 600mhz isn't terribly high especially with 900mhz CPU's going for around $40. If you're a person that's still tooling along at 300mhz or 400mhz then you aren't going to be able to play most games that are released around the same time War 3 will be anyway!

War2 was a hot piece of ass, but I'm not looking forward to War3 at all. Hopefully I'll be surprised...but god is there already enough damn RTS games out.

That's not even cool that it's first come first serve. Because then any moron who had no anticipiation for the game sign up and become one of the testers. That's like waiting in line for a few hours and then having them start with the middle people.

when starcraft first came out many computers would slow to a crawl when there were many units around:p gotta push users to upgrade so stuff can advance:) even d2 would screw my computers framerate at 800x600. and i can get 60fps average in q3a just fine:p

oh and i hate first come first serve:) nutbags..

I blow away all those min requirements. Except one which I match I have only a 32 meg graphics card, guess I need to upgrade.

i guess this is just for the beta. the full game, is supposed to need a p2-400 with 64mb ram. i guess people are complaining since most of them are playing starcraft on sub 600mhz systems still.

<< tenchim, even after the Diablo 2 thing I still consider Blizzard one of the better companies at releasing bug-free games. Nobody's perfect but Blizzard runs circles around some companies. >>

I'll give them that, sure. My comment was a general, (possibly too) broad one. My point simply was Blizzard is also a game company under the same pressures as other groups. I'm sure everyone would love to spend six months in beta before going gold to squash every bug but that's not going to happen.

well warcraft 3 doesnt look all that technologically advanced. its probably on thelevel of emperor battle of dune. this engine has been shown 9 months ago at e3, blizzard just develops slow.

so p2-400 with 64mb of ram, could realistically be minimums for it. i hate it when people keep saying that its only $60 for a new CPU, or onlyu $50 for a new vid card. a lot of people dont have $200 or so to invest in a game ($50 for game, $70 for mobo, $30 for likely new ram, $60 for new cpu, etc, time also).

not to mention most people dont know how to upgrade their own machines, so it'd cost even more, probalby just end up buying a new machine. like when i was in high school and a kid, the type to play this type of game, $200 would not have been what i'd have paid just to play this game, i'd have had better things to do.

I'm also kinda mad, that my computer doesnt fit the requirements. i personally could afford to buy a new desktop, but i have laptop, and it has 8mb video ram. dammit.
