Well there you have it. All the food is paid for on the cruise, and tap water. But everything else you have to bring or buy. I would like to bring booze, but they don't want you to as they would be loosing money if you didn't buy their $7 margaritas and other drinks.

I am allowed to bring a small amount of soft drinks on board, but they determine what is too much and throw out what they don't want you to bring.

My sister said I should bring a 6-pack diet sprite (green bottles) and just fill one with white vodka or rum. I think that would work, I would just have to reseal the bottle cap with glue or something.

Anyone do this before, or have any ideas?

Don't do it.
drinks are cheaper on a cruise than they are in Chicago, LA, or NYC. You can bring WINE and champagne, but no hard stuff or beer.

I understand WHY they do it as well. There have been numerous incidents (many of them fatal) with underage guests that brought their own booze on board then had something bad happen to them while drunk.

There was even talk on Carnival that they were banning bottles of water being brought on because people could smuggle clear booze on board in an Evian bottle or whatever.

In a clear evian water bottle. Well I guess that could work too, but I think the sprite idea is a bit better. :p

My friends each took a big bottle of mouthwash and dumped it out, washed it and poured in all kinds of vodka (with food coloring). It worked, but I hear they now check your mouthwash or dont allow it, I'm not sure what. I bet theyre pretty strict about it so you try something REALLY innovative. And there was still mouthwash taste to it, but it worked I guess

sneaking it in with your toiletries would work better; inside a isopropyl alcohol, witch hazel or hydrogen peroxide bottle or the like.

are all of you guys really that cheap that you won't just buy a drink by the pool if you want a rum and coke?!
You are on vacation, enjoy yourself without worrying if you are going to get caught smuggling booze on board.

edit to say... usually lemonade and ice tea are complimentary too.

So I asked this question before going on my cruise.

Rubycon spoke about her experiences. One of them was somone brought a huge bottle of listerine, it was filled with alcohol.

I tried this but with a smaller bottle. I threw a bottle of listerine in my girlfriends bag ebfore we left.
We get to the ship and they take our bags. When we got to our room my bag was there and my girlfriends wasnt. We waited a while and it didnt show.. So we decided to go check out the ship and wait.

We walk down to one part and we see a huge pile of luggage, Id say 200 bags. They all had red tape on them saying "LIQUOR" I saw my girlfriends bag. She was bit upset.

So we get a notice to go to the board room. We did and went in. They took our bag.. opened it and looked through and found a bottle of listerine. They asked if it was alcohol and my girlfriend was pissed and said yea and that I put it in.. All I could say was... I mouth wash with the captain... The guy said they know if its alcohol becasue when they shake it it doesnt make many bubbles.

So he takes it and puts my girlfriends name and room number on it and puts it with.. oh.. 10-12 other listerine bottles.

There were no issues.. We got the bottle back the night before we were to return.

So.. From what I hear you can take bottled water on the ship. I guess you can try to fill them with vodka or soemthing.
When the guy searched through our stuff he only looked for a second and found the bottle i didnt very descreetly place... it was right on top wrapped up. After he found it he asked if that was all.. We said yes and he zipped it up...
Maybe you can make one bottle obvious and get another bottle and put it under everything.

I do recommend going to the duty free shop and buying liquor to take home. I bought 2 bottles of absolut for 10 bucks a piece.. i go home and they are 27
They give you whatever you buy the night before you get off... so you can drink it that night

They could be big drinkers. I hate going out to bars sober because that means to get nice and sauced (and there's no special) it's going to cost me 15 x the price of whatever I decide to drink that night. Beers will be $3-$6; shots and mixed drinkers will be $5-$10.

Comparably, if I hang out with people beforehand and pregame, 12 pack of generic light beer = $6.

If I'm drinking $8 bourbon and cokes, that's $120 w/o tip in a night. Couple that with a few days on the cruise of drinking, we're talking about an alcohol bill the price of the cruise ticket.

The cruise cost $600+ per person. I'm not cheap I just don't want to pay them to drink alcohol I could bring on myself. If they charged a small fee for bringing on booze I would do that I suppose.

No, we just drink that much. I dont care where you are in the US, everyone has a cheap liquor store somewhere. Our last cruise we used mouthwash bottles (as previously mentioend) and also big bottles of hydrogen peroxide... big ones. Some cruises don't even open your big bags that you check. If you bring decent sized bottles and just wrap them up you'll be fine.

If you get caught, they just tag your alcohol and throw it in their locked cellar. You keep the tag and give it to them to pick up after the cruise. Its not like there is some ogre-lookin' dude with a big hammer smashing glass bottles all over the place when you walk in.

You are on vacation, enjoy yourself without worrying if you are going to be able to pay the tab afterwards. I brough 6 bottles of alcohol on a Princess cruise and my girlfriend and I racked up a $790 tab at the end.

Yep, looks like they're really that cheap... :p

Heh.. on my last cruise, we just brought on bottles of alcohol without having to smuggle them (this was a Windjammer Barefoot singles cruise, highly recommended) and nobody cared. It turned out that we never even drank out own alcohol, but ran up a bar tab in the multiple hundreds of dollars. Good times... :)

every 2 drinks i got I had to sign for like 22-26 bucks.

what??? what crazy ship is that that they are so over-priced?

And, my husband and i can throw down too ;)
but our bar tab has never been that crazy and when we are on vacation (esp. on a cruise) we don't skimp. If i want Belvidere or Grey Goose vodka with every drink, i get it. If he wants 30 year scotch, thats fine.
Our bill for two of us has never been more tha 300$ for a week-long cruise.

Some people pay for their vacations so they might try to save money in other ways.

You know you're allowed to bring water bottle's, right? What if one of them just had something besides water that was clear as well...

And some people don't. For example, a few weeks ago I spent a few days at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas, and paid for nothing, not even drinks. I even won about $200 at blackjack...

All paid for by my work. :D

Did the exact same thing. I quickly became a very large fan of Dos Equis.

I'll try the water bottle thing with just 1 water bottle and I will lightly superglue the cap back to the little plastic ring to make it look unopened.

I sneak alcohol onto cruise ships by buying a pair of Nike Air basketball shoes. I poke a hole in the plastic air cushion and fill it with alcohol, then plug it back up with a little bit of epoxy. Then drill a hole through the sole and attach a straw. Walla, instant drink anywhere. Just run the straw up your pants, up your shirt, and take sips when no one is looking.

Then you're averaging no more than $43 a day for both of you. Which is ~ $22 a pop. Which is about 3 drinks including tip per person, less if you're talking about high end drinks.

That's not a lot of booze at all.

was that a harsh thing to say? yes.

We pay for every SINGLE vacation we have ever taken on OUR OWN.
