President Carter
"won't say" = haven't responded to a question from some unknown, random blogger.

it's not like they're stonewalling the New York Times here, the guy probably emailed like presssec@hill2016.com and it got sent to the spam folder.

Could be she is waiting to hear from other former politicians...

I live in Birmingham, AL. "Southern Identity", as it's generally known among the more educated people I associate with, extends no further than a common assumption that we all share a sense of southern hospitality, which I think is more a product of the mostly rural nature of the south rather than something unique to the region itself. Anything deeper than that is just a cover for racism and xenophobia. I honestly don't see the confederate flag that much, but when I do the person looks as if they are on their way to or from a klan rally, which probably isn't that far from the truth.

all the Confederate flag represents is a symbol of a failed nation that broke away from the United States so they could continue to enslave people.

I respectfully disagree.

The Confederate flag is part of our heritage and history, nothing more, nothing less.

this is true... but it's not a good part, in most people's views, much like the Nazi flag is a part of German heritage and history but not one people are encouraged to embrace.

Simple test:

Ask anyone who is displaying a Confederate flag and claiming "states' rights" which Amendment to the Constitution gives ultimate authority not outlined in the Constitution to the states/people.

They answer the 10th: they might be sincere and you can have a rational discussion about the implications of displaying that flag.
They don't know: they might be racist

I'm very pro States over the Federal gov, but a few bad apples can spoil the bunch. The Confederate flag has definitely taken on racist connotation; even if that's not your personal belief, why take the chance of being labeled? There are plenty of other ways to indicate that you're proud of the South.

I think people should have the right to fly the flag, but not on government buildings.

To prove that everyone that flies it is not racist.

It's obviously an overstatement to claim that everyone who flies it is a racists.

It is most certainly NOT an overstatement to claim that MOST people who fly it are indeed racist.

It can't be real... "Hatered", "Rebelion", the apostrophe on "stand's" and the "Duke of Hazzard"? The "liberels" isn't bad as misspelling that is a given. The flag of Norway is a nice touch though, as is the "Klu Klu Klan"...lol!

I figured it would have more to do with an obsession over SEC football. :p

U do know that was part of the "official" state flag of GA back in the 70s.

He's is just a part of the retarded but, but, but crowd. And an insignificant one at that... Best to ignore the children that empty their poopy diapers here.
