Walmart salaries approach living wage . . .

The salary cap thing is old news. The status-shifting is the new bit Wal-Mart is implementing to boost profits. I think most people who work there will try to move into jobs that provide full-time while others will welcome less hours and yet others will be motivated to seek employment elsewhere. I work for a large company where it is VERY DIFFICULT to fill jobs starting at $9.20 ( with $36-a-month BC/BS family medical/dental, 50% matching 401k ) because of lack of labor, and we are talking about in the south where Wal-Mart is king.

Maybe because $9.20 isn't much. It might be compared to Wal-Mart pay, but WTF can live on $9.20 per hour? I'm not surprised you have trouble finding labor.

So, are you saying that after cutting peoples hours and benifits they might make another 1/100 of a cent more profit to send to it's shareholders? Sorry, but I'll spend a little more and keep my friends employed.

Besides, I've heard that in a small town like mine, once they put the all the competion out of business their prices are just as high as anyone elses.

Uh only two Waltons earn a salary from Wal Mart. One gets $3million for being Chairman of the Board, and the other substaintially less.

Compared to other companies, their management makes way less. Their CEO was making $3million + $5million in stock options in 2001. There were and still plenty of CEOs of much smaller companies racking in $15-20million in salary and bonuses.

Considering the average Wal Mart store has a 30% turnover rate, no one is forcing anyone to do anything.

Well typically, places that have a higher COLA, have a high wage. You can flip burgers in Austin for $9 a hour(or could a few years ago). In the state of Texas $16000 can go a long way unless you live in a Downtown area.

Im just point out that Wal Mart isnt as evil as some of you try to make them out to be. Most of their employees are full time, those that arent are cart pushers or cashiers. And what most people dont know is a lot of Wal Mart employees get pretty decent yearly bonuses.

Furthermore, their management pay is fairly low considering they are the worlds largest company. Just go look at all the management pay of other Dow companies. For the most part almost all recieved higher pay/benifits that those at Wal Mart.

The only thing scary about Wal Mart is, it is CULT.

why don't you put your money where your mouth is?

If walmart is so damn bad then why not go there, pick an employee you feel deserves it and offer to pay for thier further education so that they can make more money?

why don't you walk in and offer to buy a months worth of grocieries?

Why not walk in find an employee who is a single parent and offer to pay thier utilies or mortgage for a month? to help them along.


Walmart is not going to change thier ways because you think they are unfair. Its not your call, it is the call of the person working there what they feel is right for them. If they feel that under appreciated then they will have to make the decision. sh!t or get off the pot.

If you decide to boycott walmart because of thier "unfair" practices then what happens? They don't start handing out raises, they start cutting hours and laying people off....so it's not Walmart that would be screwing the people that work there, it would be you and the othes that decide not to shop there.

Target beats the pants off Wal-mart as far the way they are run.
They may cost a little bit more, but the stores are MUCH better and the company is way more profitable in terms for sales. I think Wal-Mart has 20% gross margins to Target's 30%.
Wal-Mart certainly is bigger, but bigger is not better, just ask GM if being the biggest is helping them any.
