Before I even set foot in Walmart, I prepare myself for dealing with the tribulations I'm about to encounter. I don't even begin to think I might be able to get any help or directions from anyone, so that's no problem. Now, they're installing self checkout lines, so I won't have to wait behind people fumbling with their purses, trying to get the sale price on a bag of pork rines, or writing checks for lunch.

They just better not turn every line into self-checkout. I think it's a good idea for those who usually run through them quickly. And credit/debit cards only please.

I don't mind people writing checks for a decent sized purchase, but lunch? No wonder she miss typed the number, she probably thought that sucked, too!

Screw all of you. I write checks all the time. I really should get a check card though... just haven't gotten around to doing so. I rarely carry cash because I will spend it much more quickly. BTW, my checks are always filled in completely, except the amount, by the time I'm to the front of the line. Hell, at most places where I eat I know what what the total is going to be for my usual meals and in these cases I spend less time paying than ANYONE using a ANY card or even cash.
Don't be stupid. If you write a LOT of checks, then you know as well as anybody how many steps they have to go through to process it, and that varies from one store to the next. In this case, she would have had to "...asks for my Driver's License. So she's starts typing my ID number in..." I'd have been long gone by then having paid cash...[/q}

The whole point would've been to write this check over to get cash...Does anyone read the first post?

I'm confused as to why your Debit card only works for Credit?

If it's a debit card, isn't it supposed to be used like a ..... i dunno, a Debit Card? (hence, you can get cashback)

Is your card a Checkings Card? Cuz that can be used as both Debit or Credit actually.
Someone pls explain the cash back feature of debit cards. I have a visa check card that debits from my bank's checking acct... I'd rather use the 1% cash back Discover credit card... and not have to "pay immediately".

the only reason why I would think you'd right a check is because you wanted to 'float' it, ie, you're banking on the $$ being there in a few days within the grace period. But writing checks for a $3-4 lunch seems retarded.
Step into 1991 already. lol

Is it that hard to believe that all I wanted was change to wash my car???? I don't like to carry cash, which is why I didn't want to pull $20 out of the ATM machine...

None of you have ever worked in retail (big corps)/????

Check fraud is HUGE and since HE WROTE A CHECK and the cashier punched in the wrong DL number (but it was invalid in their system-which is connected to a universal 3rd party check system that Kroger , safeway, target, and Wal-mart all use) a big red flag popped up that wouldn't allow the company to accept his checks until they erased the invalid entry and reset the account. YOu really need to call their customer support (you can find the number online) for billing and financial services-or go talk to a financial manager in the store.

This is not a fault of the company nor a fault of the individual-it's the scum of our society that knowinly write bad checks with fake IDs.

I'm appaled at the lack of maturity and understanding in these forums.

rogo

I second this motion. In general people's attitudes on these forums have been down right ignorant. All anyone ever seems to want to do is rip somebody a new one over nothing. Its no wonder that we're losing members to other boards. You people need to unplug, get up, leave the house, and releive some stress. The amount of rude and inconsiderate comments that you people make is insane. Maybe before you type something you should put it through a mental filter. 1) Is this comment necessary? 2) Would I make this comment in person to my Mother? 3) Is anyone going to benefit from this comment? Take some responsibilty for your actions. I'm willing to bet that most of the comments on these forums break one of these rules.

Ok. Next time I'm with your Mother I'm going to whisper a comment in her ear and she if she benefits from it. I have a feeling we will both benefit from it 😀

Umm... how can you buy a house in the other thread you listed when you don't even understand what cashback on a debit card is? Cash back on a debit card is money that is instantly debited from your account along with your purchase. It is nothing like the 1%(which really isn't 1%) that you get back from Discover. The "cash back" from Discover is just a gimmick for their sub-prime card, whereas cash back from a debit card is like writing a check to a store for an amount OVER the purchase price of what you are buying. It's just like going to the ATM, but you get to buy your stuff at the same time.

So much horror. Writing checks in line. :disgust: Walmart employees. :disgust: I've heard some awful things about the employment practices at Walmart which lead me to distrust pretty much anyone that works there. Fortunately, I rarely shop there.

Ah I see... Fayetteville. Well that explains it folks. Arkansas probably just now got introduced to CHECKS. It will be another 100 years or so before they discover Credit or Debit.
