If Nvidia paper launches and i miss my step-up, i will be extremely pissed and buy an X1900XTX immediately.
Why? 7800GT SLI setup is just as fast or faster than X1900XTX.
On another note, even if 7900 cards are faster, it's hard to image that they'll play games at much higher settings than what X1900XT can handle. For those with 7800GTs, I see little reason to drop $500 on these refresh cards. I could only see myself spending $500 on DX10 G80/R600 cards in the fall. But I guess the argument can be made that you can sell 7900/x1900 series and buy those cards. In that case, it never makes sense to wait since the loses from every 6 month upgrade can be considered "rents" for playing games.
Here's why I am going to upgrade to 7900GTX:
With my step-up, I will get $311 for my GT CO. Then I plan to sell my other GT with the NV5 Silencer for about ~$250.
That's almost a free upgrade.
Plus, I'll always ahve the option of getting another one if need be.
If Nvidia screwes me and I miss my step-up, I'm going to buy an X1900XTX just to spite Nvidia for screwing me over. Nto to mention, I'll be back to single card solution, better IQ, yada yada.
I'm going to San Diego State University in the fall and I really cant afford it. I'll be attending school on loans and financial aid. In other words, I'll be broke. Broke as a joke. So, whatever upgrade I do now is going to ahve to last me until Christmas, maybe longer.
