Could be a load coil between your house and the CO.

AT&T was initially only doing fiber to the node, but I believe they're starting to do fiber to the premises in some areas. You may be waiting a while.

AT&T is spending billions of dollars a year on upgrading their infrastructure. Much of their territory is not densely populated like Verizon's is. Telecom companies were hit hard by the bubble burst a few years back. And ironically, past innovation has hurt them - Asian countries that are ahead of us were able to upgrade their networks for far less than American companies spent in the past because they waited longer.

Before it use to be, IIRC, 15/2 mb/s for $50.

Don't know if they changed it.
It would be nice if it was 20/5 mb/s for $50 but I find that really hard to believe.

Bah. They don't even have HD service here yet, and they just barely have broadband, which only works sometimes. Charter's raising rates, too.

I'm gonna cry when I have to back home off my campus internet and back to Comcraptic.

www.speedtest.net says i'm averaging 20429kb/s down and ~10000kb/s up.

Edit: On that note gimme the backbone at work...averages like 75000kb/s down and about 15000kb/s up ;) And thats testing it 30 miles from home on remote desktop....if i was at work it'd be even faster..

I work for the Fios campaign right now that is installing almost everywhere in New Jersey. If you sign up and it's in your area you will get Basic TV, Telephone and Internet for around $100 a month. Along with that, the current promotion is giving away a free router, free $100 AMEX Gift Card and free installation. Just a FYI for everyone still looking for Fios.

I wonder if Comcast changes their prices for different people. I pay $70/month for 2 HD cableboxes with HBO, DVR and 1 internet connection. Its been between $60 and $70 for the 4 years I've lived here.

def. change prices based on the market. At my school it was about 20$ a month cheaper than it would be in a big city. biggest pile of crap ever considering its all the same "pipes"

Near philly right? That's where I live.

then why does your profile say Cali?

oh and comcrap claims they can match FIOS speeds. SO WHY DONT THEY?! They wanna provide the lowest possible service for the highest possible price for as long as they can get away with. I bet they wont up their speeds until FIOS shows up in my community (central NJ). Goes to show why competition is good for consumers

Wish that offer was avail in my area. I do see they give you 1 month free and a $20 Target gift card though. Calling to set up installation right now :D
