Nvidia will not be supporting the Vulkan API on GTX 400 and 500 Series GPUs

That's not a huge surprise, surely. Those card are 5 or 6 years old now and 3 or 4 generations back.

AMD also doesn't support their cards from that era. Anything pre-GCN isn't supported by the look of it.

Probably because Nvidia had promised Fermi would get DX12 but that didn't happen either - http://wccftech.com/fermi-dx12-support/

We were told Fermi would have DX12 support and that hasn't happened. Not surprised, really.

AMD said that the older VLIW HD 5000 and 6000 cards aren't capable. Likely why they've been relegated to legacy.

HD78xx series is also VLIW architecture. Anything 79xx and newer should be alright, as alright it can be for something that old.

The real gorilla(s) in the room, IMO, is Linux and Windows, if Vulkan adoptation matures to dx12 levels and pushed by Valve with SteamOS, year of the linux desktop may finally be within reach.

CarstenS on the beyond3d forum says the VR-Dev-Drivers 358.70 have DX12 support for Fermi.

Nvidia is the one that was claiming Fermi would have DX12 support, so it would make sense to see Vulkan support for it as well.

Since Nvidia hasn't followed through with DX12 drivers, having confirmation that Vulkan isn't coming either is good.

By bolding his post he made his intentions clear. He's shouting about Nvidia rather than saying that if your video card is 5 years old it's not getting drivers regardless of brand.

Big difference between the two.
