Voter turnout

Thought I would start a thread where people could post their impression of today's turnout.

I stopped by on my way to work this morning, 7:15am, and voted. Normally at that time I'm within the first dozen or so in my precinct to vote. When I arrived there was a line out the door. The little old ladies were coming down the line handing out donuts and coffee, nice touch, and everyone seemed to be patiently waiting and the line was moving at a decent pace. I filled out my ballot, which was a long one due to several state questions, and placed it in the tabulator as the 58th voter for the day. When I left there was still a line out the door.

I'm curious to see what percentage of registered voters turn out since I have never seen the polling place this busy.

Our voting place was busy, but not to presidential election standards. We (Tennessee) are electing a governor and (in my precinct) a state senator in addition to the representatives, but neither of our Senators is up for reelection.

The turn out seemed better than the primaries but still not as good as the presidential election.

Maybe it's my precinct but I have never had to wait in line whereas the next precint over always has a line

The Houston area had high early voting turnout. It was raining this morning so not sure how that will affect the turnout today.

In 2008 there was a 2 hour line out the door wrapping around and around (and it's a small precinct). Today I figured I'd wait until lunch but driving by this morning I noticed that parking was available inside the location (maybe 20-30 spots total). Walked in no line voted and left. Pretty poor turnout IMO. this was 8:20am.

There were fewer people there than back in '08 during the presidential election, but at least twice as many as I've ever seen for a midterm election. Pretty mixed line of folks waiting to vote, but definitely very high turnout for my precinct.

Early vote 2 weeks ago - at that time (Fri afternoon) there were about 20 people processed by early afternoon.

Governor / US Senate/ US Rep / State & Local plus half dozen props/questions

No line in my district at 10AM here in NY. I was the 67th voter according to the scanner.

On a side note, the new voting system in NY is a joke.

just voted, mostly blank with the exception of voting against roy blunt and the props. one of which would require dog breeders to a limit of 50 breeding pairs, take decent care of them and have sufficient space for them.

There were reports of southern oldham county by me which is heavy republican ran out of ballots already (at 9:30 AM!). I also have never seen my poll this busy. There was a line about 30 deep and normally there is never a line.

also, I thought polling places weren't suppose to endorse candidates. outside mine, they had signs for some, mostly republicans.

I believe there are regulations mandating that signs can't be within X feet of polling places, but I don't know the specifics.

In my state people can hold signs as long as they are at least 150 ft away from the polling place (which I guess is interpreted as the door in my state). Maybe your state has a similar provision? I live in MA

Just got back. So many old people can't drive or park there. Traffic was out onto the street (from the library); lines inside the building were about a minute. Traffic was backed up to the intersection and onto Main Street by the time I left.
