VLC 2.0 Announced

Meh, the UI refresh looks nice on the osx variant of the software but I honestly think windows version just looks nice and simple. sure there are few cosmetic changes that I'd suggest but it just works.

Glad to see it's going v2.0 nice goin VLC!!!!
 
Nothing wrong with VLC for me. The reason I switched from MPC is that the playback were getting choppy, when vlc weren't choppy at all. I'm not sure if it's better now I'll check out both soon!
 
VLC has one huge advantage that other players do not have.

Being able to play a .iso rip of any of your movies directly. No mounting necessary.

Yes. But so will Media Player Classic, and I couldn't tell any difference in CPU or GPU usage between MPC-HC and PotPlayer. Maybe if I had a weaker CPU and/or GPU you could tell a difference, but both use 0% of GPU and 1-2% of CPU. And for what it's worth, I find MPC-HC much easier to use than PotPlayer. And with VLC adding Blu-ray support, maybe I'll only need VLC in the future.

All my apps are 64-bit . There are many players out there that are already 64-Bit, Video Lan already said that VLC 2 will have native 64-bit support, so the real question is...why not?

So...basically you're obsessive compulsive?

Also, you have a valid point in some ways. Why shouldn't all apps be 64-bit? But then, why is that a selling point? And why is it such a big deal when one isn't?

is potplayer the one that is absolute hell to install or am i thinking of something else?


also going back to VLC 1.whatever as 2.0 simply does not act correctly on my computer, video defaults to full screen across both monitors playing outside the VLC program window that is open - basically it sets itself as my wallpaper (why anyone would want to do this is beyond me) if i uncheck that option it crashes

Well I've read someone in a thread mention that it requires many steps to configure.

But maybe that was an old version. With the current version, all you do is install it and it plays everything at super high quality out of the box!

The only thing I do is go to options (press F5 as a shortcut) then disable the tray icon because if you don't you won't even see the program in your taskbar only in your system notification tray. Other than that, it has been the best player I have used until date!

Very fast and snappy when you seek through diff. parts of a movie for example (no pauses or hangs), very smooth video playback. Superb quality IMHO compared to even the best players.

At the end of the day, PotPlayer although the name sounds stupid as heck if you ask me, comes from the developers of KMPlayer which was a highly respected player as well. So it's not like it's new or anything, just a new name and lots of improvements including native 64-Bit support

Because 64 bit apps consume more memory than 32 bits apps due to the size of the variables used and run a tiny bit slower due to the time it takes to write 64 bits in memory vs 32 bits. 64 bit has its place but doing it for things like notepad is pointless. I can make 128bit apps right now but again it is pointless for anything that doesn't need the extra memory.
