All my apps are 64-bit . There are many players out there that are already 64-Bit, Video Lan already said that VLC 2 will have native 64-bit support, so the real question is...why not?

As Modelworks said, 64-bit binaries are slightly larger and slightly higher memory usage meaning there's a potential performance regression right off the bat, although it's minute. The big reason for not delivering a 64-bit binary in this area is that all of the plugins that the app uses have to be 64-bit as well as 64-bit binaries can't load 32-bit libraries. For an app like VLC, that's a lot of different libraries for codecs, container formats, video/sound drivers, etc that need ported and tested.

I could see encoding getting a noticeable benefit from a 64-bit binary, but decoding should just be dependent on the rendering hardware.

Ahh, very good point you have there. VLC is one of the best players as always anyway

I just download the .zip, unzip it and use it that way. I don't even install it. I still like VLC player, it's a old standby and I will always have it handy.
