mcnemp - you have an issue that is either hardware related (your computer) or you have a defective monitor. I can definately say that mine does not look anything like that. Just because you are having issues doesn't mean that you should dismiss the product as a whole.

Unless you're doing this on purpose for whatever lame reason, or unless you're unbelievably ignorant I'll refer you to a link that should help you speed up you computer....
I reinstalled XP 2 days ago and my system is virus/spyware free so it's not the problem.

Here's 6 other pictures:

You definately have a hardware problem, I see this happen occasionally on several different computers, usually whens being bogged down or if there has been some sort of memory leak.

If its happening non stop and programs are responsive, I'd guess it would be your video card and/or your drivers...

I really hope to find the source of the problem soon. Maybe my 512 megs of ram is defective or there's something wrong with my new Radeon x800xtpe (reverting back to older drivers and enabling/disabling some specific settings didn't change anything). I reinstalled a fresh backup of XP, reinstalled all the necessary drivers and nothing changed. I'll switch back to Analog, try another monitor and another vidcard, test my mem modules and if the problem can't be resolved then... I'm very not lucky.

Seems like most of you are upgrading from some old decaying 17" CRT; a comparison against that will not justify much.

I have a 19" NEC FE991SB only a little over 2 years old now, and it blows this, and probaly all LCD's, out of the water. The only thing better on this LCD is the text, compared to my CRT.

I'm still going to get the NEC FP2141SB-BK 22" CRT. You just can't beat a good CRT in IQ.

That's true and probably will still be true for a while. However, I didn't buy a LCD because I thought it would be better than a CRT. I bought a LCD because I'm stuck in this tiny ass dorm room at college and have ZERO room for a CRT much less a 22 inch CRT. So before you let your e-penis get too big remeber that people buy things for different reasons.

And I spend 50+ hours a week infront of a computer, so if I can save my eye s a bit, it's worth it.

Did you try turning off the Goa Psytrance?

lol

I agree with the previous two gentlemen, I'm all about the footprint and ergonomics. Good luck.

I have this LCD and it works great, none of the problems a few have said on this forum. It does sound like another problem, like the Video card, memory, somthing bogging your system down. You need a decent system to run this monitor at its native resolution which is 1280x1024.You guys are knocking the LCD when the real problem is probaly your sysytem, unless you got a faulty LCD. Absolutely no ghosting, movies play fine and the text is actually better than my old CRT, and takes up almost no room on my desk and uses much less power.
3.2 P4
1 gig ram
6600 gt video card
using DVI

Good Luck hope you find the problem.

Well upon further thought, it might be my video card. I got it used, but the thing is i get the same quality in dvi or anaglogue so maybe not.
Other thing is, even if i do return it, i might not do any better. Is there anything better?

I don't have the problem you are having at all. It's probably your drivers.

One of the only problems I've had so far with this monitor is tearing in games. A couple games where it's apparent is CS: Source and KOTOR 2. It bothers me enough to the point where I have to turn V-Sync on for a majority of the games I play (and cuts into my frame rate).

However, what I will say now is that at the time of writing there are still stocks of the 16ms monitor floating about in a number of stores. So, be sure that you verify with the vendor that you?re interested in the 8ms version. If the vendor isn?t sure, there are a number of ways to determine this. First, some may choose to name it the VP171b/s-2 (b for black, s for a silver bezel), with the number ?2? denoting the second generation. However, I?d still be cautious as mistakes can be made on the vendor?s website. Preferably, I?d ask them to confirm the model number which can be found on the box. If the last two characters are either ?4W? or ?5W? then it?s the 8ms display. If they are ?2W? or ?3W?, it?s the 16ms display. For those who have already bought one, you can always check out the model number by navigating your way to the ?Information? menu in the OSD.

I got one of these a few days ago, I'd give it a 7/10 score so far. I'd consider myself a fairly hardcore gamer type, and that's my main criteria for judgment.

The monitor is nice but it really took some getting used to, and I'm still on that learning curve. The initial issue was simply setting up the contrast and brightness. The monitor is insanely bright and I have both these settings at zero in the OSD. I'm also still trying to find the sweet spot on the ATI gamma slider.

I have no tearing or smearing in CS:S, KotORII, or Pacific Fighters. One of my biggest problems is that I'm very fidgety while I'm gaming. Sometimes I lean back in my chair and that really changes the color coming from the monitor. I was kinda surprised by this but I'm slowly getting used to it. I'm trying to sit straight up now and view the screen from an upright position.

My two biggest issues with the monitor, at this point, are the nag display change OSD screen. Any time an in-game movie in KotORII plays the screen res changes and thus displays a big blue box on the screen. The second issue is color recognition in a 3D application (probably due to the 500:1 contrast ratio). Everything close up looks properly colored, no banding, etc.. Everything in the distance turns into mud though and I have a hard time getting a proper ID on distant movement in CS:S. I'm still tweaking contrast, brightness, and gamma though so maybe I'll find a solution.

Anyway... if this is the current state of LCD monitors I think they're not quite ready for competitive gaming yet. But when I look at the form factor and power consumption difference the LCD becomes very attractive to me, and possibly worth it. I'm not sure yet if I'll return to the CRT, probably not though. I may try another LCD brand though.

I have none of these issues. Did you install the monitor .inf driver from the CD?

Hmmm... in Display properties are you set to 1280x1024 and do you have monitor scaling turned off on the displays tab? Are you using DVI?

Yes it's at 1280x1024, monitor scaling is off and I'm using DVI.

Same. Another problem I've been having lately is sometimes everything on the screen will become super sized, to the point where I have to reboot to fix it. There's no loose connections, so it's been quite annoying.

Im not sure what to set my monitor scaling to, I dont seem to have an option to just shut it off, it gives me 4 choices :Display adapter scaling, centered output, monitor scaling or fixed aspect ratio scaling, not sure what to use????? this is using my GeForce 6600GT tab.
