Viewsonic VP171B now available in 8ms model?

Has anyone else heard about Viewsonic coming out with an 8ms version of their VP171B? I've been shopping around for a few weeks looking at these, and just recently I've noticed that some places are listing the specs as 8ms response time. Newegg has thiers listed as 8ms here , and I was also able to find a review of this monitor that says it is 8ms here .

From what I can tell, maybe there are two versions of this monitor now, because Dell has theirs listed as a 16ms panel but the part number is VP171B-2 instead of just VP171.

Somebody help! Are there two versions of this monitor now? Viewsonic only has one version listed on their site, and they also say it is 8ms. http://www.viewsonic.com/produ...eries/vp171b/index.htm

Under $400 seems like a hell of a deal for an 8ms panel!

My experience with Viewsonic support was a prompt reply. I suggest you contact them and let us know.

Ok guys. I got some information on this from Viewsonic. The VP171B-2 is the newer model and is an 8ms panel. The VP171B is the 16ms model. Now I'm trying to figure out who is actually selling the 8ms version. I contacted newegg because their description says it is an 8ms response time, but the model # they have listed is for the VP171B, which is 16ms. They are going to check into this further and call me back today.

Dell has the -2 listed as the part # on their site, but their description says it is a 16ms panel! I've talked to two different people there and I can't seem to get a straight answer. I think their call center has been outsourced to overseas, so getting good support has been difficult so far. I'll let you know what I hear next.

Well, I called newegg back since I never heard from anyone. The guy I talked to said he thinks it is an error in their description, because the model they have is the VP171B, which has a 16ms panel. I never did get a clear answer from Dell. It sure would be nice to actually speak with someone from this country when people have questions like this.

Just wanted to update this thread for anyone following it. I just ordered the Viewsonic from Dell this afternoon. I finalyl talked to a guy that was very helpful, and he called a couple people for me while I was on hold. They were all pretty certain that the description on their site is just outdated, and the part # is what we should go by. So...hopefully I'll have my 8ms monitor arriving early next week. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I just got e-mail from Dell that my monitor shipped yesterday, and apparently it's going to be delivered today (assuming the DHL guy doesn't mess things up -- still, not bad for their free shipping). Assuming I get it this afternoon, I'll tell you what part number I got.

Jesus man, that's nice. I live in Texas, which is where it is being shipped from so you'd think I would get mine pretty quick. It actually shipped out yesterday, and from the tracking it looks like I should get it tomorrow which would be fine.

No coupons, but Dell was having a sell of 15% off this monitor up until yesterday, so we were able to get it for $348 before tax.

Okay, I have the box sitting in front of me right now, and before I even open it and look at the manual, I see a big sticker on the front that say 8ms. The packing list gives the monitor part number as VP171B-2, which is supposed to be the 8ms model.

I don't want to unpack the whole thing until I get home, but at least so far, it sure looks like the 8ms model, which is pretty nice for $350 and free shipping (although, unfortunately, I see that Dell has the monitor price back up to $409).

Newegg appears to have it here although note that they describe the monitor as 8ms, but list the part number as VP171B, not VP171B-2, and the plain VP171B is apparently the 16ms monitor.

Hell yes, awesome news! I can't wait to get mine tomorrow!

edit: Actually I just checked and it says the estimated delivery date is today, so maybe it will be waiting for me when I get home.

Oh and about Newegg....I've exchanged a few notes back and forth with them over the past few days, and told them about this issue. They said they have some people looking into it, and any changes that are made to their listed model # or description should be in place by close of business today.

UPDATE!!!

I just got my VP171B in that I ordered from Dell, and it is in fact the 8ms version!! This thing looks awesome so far. Absolutely no sign of ghosting, and not one dead pixel! My new video card isn't in yet, so right now I'm only running Analog and it still looks damn nice. Can't wait to see how DVI looks. It looks like the price has gone up to $409 at Dell, but still would have bought it at that price. You just can't beat an 8ms panel with Viewsonic quality for that price. I'm about to go test it out in game and see how it looks.

No game testing for me until I build my new machine, but I hooked the monitor up to my laptop last night just to give it a whirl and it looks great. No dead pixels, no ghosting, sharp and clear. It was quite bright out of the box, so I had to adjust that, but from the little time I spent, the menu options were all easy to use. I am tremendously pleased (and I can't believe Dell got it to me in 2 days.)

Alright, I'm ordering it. Now.. to order from Dell or Newegg?

Is the one on newegg 16ms or the 8ms? All the reviews say 16ms, but they're old and there hasn't been a new review since around November.

Ordering from newegg would save me around $75, so I'd prefer to do that.. but I'm not sure which panels they have in their stock. I'll order from Dell and pay the taxes if I have to, but I'd rather not. I may be able to order through my company and get a 10% discount if I order from Dell, but it's still $40 more than Newegg. I'll wait until tomorrow.. if newegg's description is changed then I'll order it from them, otherwise I'll wait 'til Monday and order through work.

Yeah, just got done playing some CS for the past hour and this thing looks great. No ghosting whatsoever. This monitor rocks. And for anyone wondering (cause I know I was) it comes with both DVI and Analog cables.

As for where to order it, Newegg still has the old model # listed. You could take your chances and hope that they're description is right, but it's not a sure thing you'll get the 8ms from them. Newegg told me they would have their listing updated by close of business yesterday, but I see they haven't changed the description or model # yet, so people like you are still unsure on what to do. You could just wait until a new stackable coupon comes out from Dell, and get it there. The monitor was 15% off when I bought it earlier in the week, so I got a nice deal.

Edit: I just checked newegg again, and they have updated their description and now list it as a 16ms panel. Looks like they are still selling the old version. I guess that makes your decision easy on where to get it!

Well?!?!? how is the gaming performance! :p I'm looking into getting a new monitor and am a hardcore gamer, counter-strike etc. I won't settle for ghosting.

On a side note i've been trying to do some research on what monitor I should get. Basically LCDs just 'look' at lot better than CRVs right? Though the CRVs have better performance? Is that the comparision in a nutshell?

Thanks

See the post above for my impressions in gaming. This monitor has performed flawlessly so far. I seriously can't say enough good things about it, it's perfect as far as I'm concerned.

And I think you mean CRT monitor, right? CRV is a compact sports utility vehicle made by Honda. ;)
