if this video is real, does anyone want to explain how they strapped a camera to the back of a hornet for that shot at the beginning?

perhaps footage from another video.

I think this was all planned out by the National Geographic. They might have intoxicated one of the hornets (they do get drunk sometimes), strapped a really really tiny camera to his back. Remember, these hornets are over 2 inches long, so a finding a small enough camera wouldn't be "that hard". I think a really small camera (they probally exist) wouldn't have much of an effect on its flight. Make it fly around for a bit, take it off, and call it a wrap.

Insert that clip into this "war" video, and ta da.

I bet the killer bees would win.

The thing that makes them so dangerous is their tendancy to group. When you disturb the hive, they ALL attack you..

Honey bees are much more docile, even when being attacked. The video said that they still even manage to kill a few of the wasps..

I bet killer bees would make pretty quick work of them. They're angry mothers. :Q

It's too bad you can't coach the honey bees. "Sting them in the eyes and face!!"

Well, how big are those African Bees?

The bees might be able to sting the Hornets, but did you see the pincers on those things? They were ripping those honey bees in half with no problem at all, going from one bee to the next. The sting of the african bee might be more dangerous, but the Hornet has those venomous pincers.

I would suppose it depends on how many hornets vs how many Bees. They had 30 hornets take out 30,000 Honey Bees with hardly any losses. I'm not sure if the African Bees or Hornets reproduce as much as the honey bees. I would definatly say 1v1, the hornet would win, 30,000 african bees vs 30 hornets, the Bees would win. All depends on the amount of bees and hornets.

If you can't figure out how to find the host, you just weren't trying. Open up the wvx with good ole notepad and you get :

Ref1=http://221.115.91.98:80/olympus/m01_hi.wmv

which means that if you wanna right click and save as try right clicking this.

Damn.. right clicking this makes it another WVX... well, at least now you know WHAT the host is.. somebody else wanna figure out the rest?

I think they're pretty much the same. I can't find any specific figures with a quick google, other than a killer be queen can lay some 1500 eggs a day. I think their hives are around the same size as normal honey bees.

I think they're roughly the same size, though. But like I said, they are many orders of magnitude more aggressive than normal honey bees.

I honestly don't think the wasps would have a chance, at least with a 10,000 : 1 ratio. But I dunno, those are some pretty badass wasps. I'm sure they'd chew through them quickly, but.. the killer bee's tendancy to group is what makes them killer.

I looked a few things up about them. Apparently they're the same size as a European bee, and the stings are about the same lethalness, but the Africans are much more aggressive. Thats the only difference I noticed from reading up about them.

I don't know, those Hornets kicked alot of ass. They were just chomping heads off left and right. The stings wern't doing much to the Hornet, so I would imagine the Hornets stand a pretty good chance.

awesome
my nightmares will be filled with bees and hornets now instead of deformed babies

Of course its true. You think I would make it up?? I actually watch alot of Discovery, History etc etc Channels and am fairly smart, contrary to what most of my posts on ATOT would indicate.... :p

The dogpile works becuase the heat generated can be upwards of 150 degrees. This is hot enough to kill the hornet, but the bees have evolved to where they can tolerate this extreme heat for short durations.

Yeah... it'll work until the hornets evolve a defense against the dogpile.

The bees need to evolve a way to spray RAID out of their stingers. :p

Wow. I don't really mind bees (unless they are seriously bothering me) but I'll kill a hornet or wasp on sight. I actualyl like watching the big bumble-bees as they fly around the flowers and do their polination thing...

That video actually made me kind of sad. :(

looked it up

Honey bees do most of the pollinating of fruits and vegetables in the garden. In fact, one bee may visit 10 to 15 blossoms a minute and up to 5,000 a day. While that may seem like a large number, consider that honey bees visit two million blossoms to make just one pound of honey. In fact, in its entire life, a single honey bee only gathers 1/12 teaspoon of honey.

down with hornets!
