They are called GAMES for a reason.
Let's ban all card games while were at it. Board games too.
Ban anything that isn't approved by a parenting committee!
first of all, i'm 21 and own and have played plenty of games, so don't expect to knock down my opinion on the basis of bias or credibility. second, board games, card games, etc. require (in most part) other people to play. this kind of play/entertainment is fine, because it engenders social interaction, develops character traits, and creates real relationships. most video games are single player, and even the multiplayer games are predominantly on-line.

I have no intentions of "knock down your opinion", it's your opinion, there is no right and wrong. Don't be so defensive. What does your age have to do with it? Are you stating that now you are older and see that all the time you wasted with video games makes you angry? I'm 24 and was heavy into video games AND sports. I don't have any social issues nor lack of character development. Of course, I wasn't a fat ass kid sitting in my house all day playing games and chomping on doritos.
I have a little brother who is into video games fairly heavy. Whenever I visit I see him and a whole group of his friends rocking out in their room playing games, messing around, doing whatever young teenage boys do. I don't see how hanging out with 3-5 friends daily to play games makes him anti-social or socially inept.
Card games develop character traits? Like what? Gambling and cigar smoking? Usually when you play card games, you do it with people who are friends already. Unless you are part of a bridge club or something like that. I fail to see how any menial games contribute to social and personal growth.
It's a game, which is used for entertainment. This isn't group therapy or activity therapy. It's playing a GAME.
Now is the part where I sort of make fun of you.

Being in university makes you think too much. You might want to set a bridle on that.
How about we get all the 8-15 year olds to go to the gym and pump iron all day. That will develop social skills and build loads of character.
