I would inform the authorities ...

Even if it`s a joke by the neighbour`s son, I still wouldn`t risk my family`s life.

maybe its not a 4 but a "h" or a backwards "h". Maybe someone should look up in the bible for Something 4:4.

i think it's quite obvious.

they're going to shoot you in the heart with a 44 caliber pistol after they stamp the back of your book at the library

the 4 cent stamp seems to be the least sensible part of the puzzle, it just makes no sense, why 4 and most importantly why a stamp, if the guy wanted to send a message of 4 cents, he could've easily sent 4 cents, why go to the trouble of getting a 4 cent stamp. And the library cut out from the game clue, this whole thing must have something to do with clue, i've never played the game so can't comment on it.

This is what i would do.......

At 4:44PM I'd have a friend drive me to the library and have him wait for me in front of the library with a cell phone by his side. I'd go inside the library by myself with a cell phone in my pants with his number dialed so that if anything happens i just have to press the talk button.

Once inside the library i'd look around a bit and see if anyone is watching over me suspiciously or too much. If i could'nt find any clues once inside i'd go up to the library person and show them the envelopes and ask if he/she knows anything about them. If she can't help me i'd ask for the head librarian and ask them same, if she doens't know i'd explain the situation and see what comes out of that.

If no one knows anything i'd go to the bathroom to call my friend, i'd tell him to leave his car keys inside the glove compartment with the doors unlocked and to come inside and to try to be unnoticible as possible and too look around the entrance of the bathroom and to tell me if the coast is clear to come out. If he tells me coast is clear i'd walk outside towards the parking lot to leave while my friend looks after me with his cell dialed at 911. If he tells me theres someone waiting suspiciously around the area then i'd make him call the police and then go up to that person and ask them about a book while i get out the bathroom. Once i come out i'd take a good look of the person (name tag) (face) etc.. and walk away towards the car while my friend keeps talking to him/her. Then i'd walk up to my friends car and drive to my house to pick up my car. I'd call my friend and tell him to keep his eye on the "attacker" as I drive back to the library.

Once i return i'd just wait and till the attacker leaves to record his license plate number and i'd try to follow him to his house and get his adress or anything else i can. If it gets to this point then my friend can take a bus to my house.

If i get his info i'd go pick up my friend call the cops and go to his house to solve this.

This could turn into a million diff things but i'd have my cell, and my friend with his cell behind me. They would'nt know hes with me so thats a big plus for me. But its a risk i'd be willling to take.

Maybe the doc will do the same ;)

i think this is blackmail, I don't think the man behind this wants the doc dead, yet at least. He wouldn't do all these elaborate things if his intention is to kill him, he would've done so already. But instead he wants the doc to either do something or know something. It's a message, perhaps a warning.
And I'm betting that the doc knows something but is hiding it, which could explain why he hasn't gone to the police yet.

Well, thus far there is really nothing to update. The doctor doesn't seem to be thinking much of it. He hasn't gotten a 4th letter yet, but he seems to think it will be coming soon, so monday when my mom talks to him, I'll let ya'll know.

My mother really doesn't feel like telling them (the doctor and his wife) about the whole chines 4 conspiracy, because my mom thinks they'll freak out.

If this was happening to me, I would have already called the cops...

not informing the police is such a bad move. sure...it could turn out to be nothing, but he would be so much better off taking a ride down to the police dept. and speaking with an officer/detective about the situation. you never know...maybe other people in the area have been recieving the same types of things, and what the doctor has recieved might bring more light to the matter.

If it does turn out it's a real threat, and the doctor gets killed, wouldn't your mom feel guilty as hell for trivializing it? Do they even have a real reason for not calling the cops?

The whole finger printing thing and the reason police often don't do it is because 1) it makes a mess and 2) unless they are on file they don't have anything to go on. If the item is a public item like a stair rail, door knob, etc that can easily be gotten out of.

Any update on the wierdo?

Naw, screw that, I'll just stroll my happy ass over to the foreign language department and get someone who speaks Chinese if you need me to. My Japanese professor is Chinese, though she's out for today; I could ask her tomorrow if I can't find anybody today.

Your Japanese professor is Chinese?? Now that is strange.

In college, my french professor was an american...that's not necessarily wacky. Not just japanese people speak the language.

I know that but there is a great deal of tension between China and Japan. I don't think it has abated all that much. Most Chinese people probably haven't forgotten the Rape of Nanking etc.

The tension between China and Japan? The Japanese people never renamed Chinese food as "freedom food." :)

you've never been to china or japan have you? it's true, there is great tension between the people and china and japan. The Chinese dispises the japanese for the atrocities during WW2 while the Japanese look down on the Chinese, to them, the Chinese is a bunch of peasants.
Just... Wow. I'm Chinese and I never understood why my dad disliked the Japanese so much. I mean I knew there was a history, but never thought to look it up.

Exactly what I was thinking...

What does he have to lose ? I mean these "threats" are obviously still coming...

the worst is that till this day the japanese still denies the history, they omit the dark chapter in text books, and tell people that they were doing china a favor by cleansing the population.
