And why are the American people so god damn stupid and blood thirsty?

Popular approval for military action against Venezuela is like at 20%. And if anything goes sideways that will probably fall.

I suppose that means we have reasonable pressure against a substantial bombing / invasion.
But Republicans refuse to impeach their own, which dismantles the whole concept of being responsible to the people.
In fact, many Republicans have begun riding the propaganda train for why we need to go to war. It's disgusting.

If body bags start coming home from this there will be real political consequences.

If I'm the next president I’m allowing Venezuela to extradite anyone involved to face justice. Or let the world court deal with it.

Nothing spells trouble like American adventurism in watching people die.
T&T has decided to play host to the US invasion of South America. Looks like a puppet state I did not know we had. I suspect they will be the ultimate casualty of this conflict as soon as the US loses interest. Locals are going to really want some payback and a tiny island nation looks like a juicy target. Especially when it poses a security risk by being owned and operated by foreign powers.
Trinidad's prime minister previously has praised ongoing U.S. strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean.

So... United States "declares" war and claims ownership of Venezuela?

Trump Orders Blockade

“Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America,” Trump said in a post on his social media platform. “It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the United States of America all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us.

Does he know that Venezuela is not an island? You can't have it surrounded on all sides by ships.

He stated that it's a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers. That's an important detail that enables him to get away with it.

All this just to have a distraction from Trump and his dead buddy Epstein? I mean why not? Sure, I can see our oil barons stroking Donald's ego with a freebie buy-in on VV Day, but it does make me wonder if all this ruckus wouldn't have happened if Bondi handled the Epstein cover-up like a pro would've been able to.

You're trying to frame facts, logic and reason. To construct something of law and order. And attach "get away with it" as if that is associated with any of it.
But did you read his deranged diatribe where Trump announced this escalation of war?

I'll re-frame this for you. Nazi gonna Nazi.
In his own words, Trump claims the United States owns Venezuela. Trump is Hitler.

Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America. It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the United States of America all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us. The illegitimate Maduro Regime is using Oil from these stolen Oil Fields to finance themselves, Drug Terrorism, Human Trafficking, Murder, and Kidnapping. For the theft of our Assets, and many other reasons, including Terrorism, Drug Smuggling, and Human Trafficking, the Venezuelan Regime has been designated a FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. Therefore, today, I am ordering A TOTAL AND COMPLETE BLOCKADE OF ALL SANCTIONED OIL TANKERS going into, and out of, Venezuela. The Illegal Aliens and Criminals that the Maduro Regime has sent into the United States during the weak and inept Biden Administration, are being returned to Venezuela at a rapid pace. America will not allow Criminals, Terrorists, or other Countries, to rob, threaten, or harm our Nation and, likewise, will not allow a Hostile Regime to take our Oil, Land, or any other Assets, all of which must be returned to the United States, IMMEDIATELY. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Start shooting and there's going to be a whole lot more folks migrating north to get away from Trump's weapons free grab for oceanfront resort properties and the oil to pay for it all.

Nothing to do with that. Rubio for personal reasons wants to knock over the Cuban government but first he has to take out one of their primary supports, who he also happens to hate. Oil is the angle that Trump likes and can be easily sold on appropriating. Basically we're probably gonna do a bunch of international crime in the name of Rubio's animus toward the Cuban government and Trump's penchant for theft.

Don't forget it opens up a "war" that lets them think they have grounds to invoke the Alien Enemies Act.

It checks lots of boxes.

Whatever dude, not sure why you are being so reactionary as if I was defending trump. Anyone on this forum regularly knows I view him as a vile POS that is the single biggest threat to democracy we have ever seen.

Leaving out the sanctioned part of the story is misleading and disingenuous. And yes, it does give him a legal defense as sanctioned boats are not the same as non sanctioned boats. The sanctioned oil tanker seized last week was the test and proves that.

So we know trumps reasoning but is any of it true? I wasn’t aware of any conflict with Venezuela prior to Trump so my understanding of what’s going on is severely limited.
