Seems silly. If you click the thread title and don't find the link provided worthy of your attention...exit the thread. No one forces you to post in any of the threads.
It is painfully obvious that there are several people getting compensated in some fashion for their posts, or it sure as heck seems that way.HappyMedium said:Thats not how it works here at Anadtech.
You see that title gets cached into Google(I learned this from a red team members post) and suddenly the AMD/Nvidia PR is on you and discredits you and your source/links.
Even if you put Fudzilla in the thread title, or whatever, people are still going to try to agitate the matter with the usual Atidiot/Nvidiot nonsense and cause disruption. I hardly see how putting the source of the link in the thread title will change anything at all.
How is it targeted against him? Its for everyone in the forum.
In other words, try to get rid of PR people then. Well, they aren't going any where. The meat of the threads are in the replies, and not in the titles...and as long as this forum continues to get the hits it does, they are going to be here.Plain and simple its a google cache PR thing. what other reason is there.
Why the sudden change after 11 years?
Really? Look as his thread
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2126337
Look at all the moral outrage from certain people over his title.
Now if you look at some pro-AMD rumor sites like Chiphell and Semiaccurate.....
Suddenly there is no huge fuss. :hmm:

You see that title gets cached into Google(I learned this from a red team members post) and suddenly the AMD/Nvidia PR is on you and discredits you and your source/links. When they get enough infractions they use a different name with a different e-mail /ip address from a account they made up 2,3, 4 years ago with 40 posts and mount post after post and attack you. They work in the backround with PM's and bait the crap out of you.
And no I will not give up my sources.![]()
The problem comes when someone tries to pass off rumors as factual information.
I do think posting rumors as fact "until the information is disproved" is a dangerous, backwards way of thinking because it removes accountability for all parties involved for distinguishing the two.
I agree, what the hell Happy? That's an awful lot of baseless accusations. What makes you think AMD PR even knows who you are, never mind mount some campaign to conspire against you? That's got to be the most outrageous accusation I've ever heard. What do you think, AMD called a board meeting on a Saturday to get happy medium?![]()
I can understand why you are against this. It is "apparently your post" that perpetuated this rule discussion. You get a vote like everyone else. Verbally screaming and kicking and throwing up a fuss is not a proper way to allow influencing policy, though.
It lets me know at a glance if I want to click on the thread.
For instance if I see something like "Chiphell - GTX 595 pics/pricing", I'll probably click on it. Alternately, if I see something like "S/A (Charlie) - AMD to buy NVIDIA for pennies on the dollar!", I probably won't.
''everybody clicks on every thread''===NO.All due respect, Nitro, but you would click on either thread. The temptation would be too much for you not to. I say this because if you're anything like me, E.G. a human being, your curiosity will be sated by clicking on the link, especially when it costs nothing (except a minute or two) to do so.
All this BS about having descriptors/sources in a title means nothing. Everybody clicks on every thread. Just to make sure they aren't missing anything.
Descriptors/sources in thread topic is fine, but that won't stop anyone from clicking on them.

''everybody clicks on every thread''===NO.
That's trivially shown to be false, so cannot possibly be an argument against including sources in the titles of threads.
Now this is going to be long, and parts of it are probably not going to be a popular read, but I'm approaching the stage of "last straw" myself so here goes nothing. Apologies for the following rant.
Obviously, I agree with the citation changes. Why?
1) A number of members pride themselves on their post counts (trying to claim that this entails they produce quality posts (rubbish!)) and also validate their debatable presence on this forum by the number of views their threads get.
2) You know what sort of person makes a thread for the sake of views/responses, right? Someone like a journalist, perhaps? Someone who gets paid to write thousands, and I mean thousands, of posts and threads supporting the positive brand propagation of a particular company across fora? The same sort of person who has stated on this very forum that he would be happy to receive an invite to a certain company's marketing group. I'd post the relevant quote here to seal the deal, as it were, but post histories only go back so far. Fortunately for me, my memory goes back farther.
3) These sorts of people obscure the very reason (I think) many people come to this forum. To learn about hardware in our spare time. Not to sift through posts that are equivalent to advertisements every few lines.
There are people on this forum who are not 'fanboys'. I'm not a fanboy. I post because I have spare time, and I'm motivated to clear up the (as I see it) marketing trash that sometimes plagues this forum. There are a number of really great posters spread across the hardware forums on this site (the CPU sub-forum is especially blessed, I think), but there are similar unbiased posters here in VC&G. Not everyone here is a fanboy for a video card company. Some of us pursue objectivity.
VC&G have good posters but the problem is a lot of the threads end up being debates between Marketers/spin doctors and people who, over hundreds of posts, end up trying to debate something very simple - to set things aright. Over time, frustration builds up (because some of these Marketers become deliberately obtuse), or just stop responding (to take up the same line of argument in another thread - a sort of spamming if you will).
I'm sorry for the rant, but I feel that it's on topic. If the goal is to have this forum be a fun place to have discussion, learn something, have a laugh, compare and contrast and what not - I'm all for it. But I personally think that the people who are obviously here to either get a job with a marketing agency (especially those who have said so!), or those who already have one, have been mollycoddled enough. And of the hardware forums I think VC&G is by far the most plagued with this rubbish.
You cannot speak for everybody.I know personally that I don't click on every thread and I'm sure there are others who don't click on every thread.Yes.. Ohhh yes. I'm sorry dude but you can't argue with human curiousity. One of the strongest charectaristics of us. Ever curious, even if only for a moment to discover that it doesn't really hold any interest.
You lost me at pride. From what I've seen in video lately, there is not much left to be proud of. Anyway, I've said my part as others have.
Toodles.
