Also, this is an INCREDIBLE time for people with a single 980Ti to go SLI. I guess they could sell the 980ti and get two 1070's, but it will cost more. They could grab a second 980Ti and benefit from SLI (if their games will use it) and hold off until 1080ti/Vega for about $350 or whatever the 980ti's are going for.
For my own needs, if I want more performance this would be a good time to try out a custom BIOS and add some voltage to get these 980ti's past 1500 stable. Temps aren't an issue no matter what, so that's good.

If SLI is really improved with the 1080, then 980ti in SLI might get embarrassed?

Was there any aftermarket GTX980, non Ti, with 2 8-pins? If yes, did it clock higher than the reference, single 8-pin version? Just curious, in regard to those rumored 2,4GHz aftermarket 1080s.... if those are not true, and 2,1 GHz is pretty much what the chip can do at best, i wonder what would be the point of another 8-pin, if single one is enough to OC the card to its max potential?

Well, the ZOTAC card appears to have a 6 pin connector added. So another 75W was apparently enough.

Just wondering about people wanting to put two "cheap" 980ti in SLI, versus folks who will go with 1080s in SLI and if the 1080s would have a bigger lead with the bandwidth increase?

Enquiring minds want to know, but it seems I can't get an answer.

Meanwhile, I will be looking hard at the 1070 for my rig.

See my sig, I have 9x120mm radiator and all my cards and the CPU are water-cooled and my water loop could easily dissipate upwards of 3KW of heat that's why I find the power argument completely irrelevant in my case. That cooling and the 1.2KW PSU are there for a reason. Where did you write about Fury? BTW. I consider anything under 20% to be minor certainly not noticeable.

Because 1080 is under 12% faster after overclocking and also because I didn't see any review where non-reference clocked 980Ti were pitted against 1080. That Asus Matrix is in another league performance-wise than the stock clocked 980Ti

There were and they did. Max OC performance was 7.4% higher on the MSI Gaming 980 compared to reference.

Nominal clock frequencies were slightly higher with MSI hitting 1380/2050 vs 1350/1970 on the reference side, though note that this is not the maximum observed boost clock, but the GPU-Z clock. In the 1080 review, 2114 is indeed the maximum observed boost clock with the GPU-Z clock being 2060.

However, 2.3/2.4GHz seems a little fanciful to me. I think we'll see most cards maxing out at around 2.2GHz on air, and that will be somewhat uncommon.

That's FUD. We've had those benefits with rigid bridges, over the cheap flxible kind, for quite a while now.

This is made all the more hilarious by the fact that I asked someone else for proof of cheap 980Tis and they were far too lazy to actually just look. Although this is obviously only ONE and not the normal price. People EAT UP Nvidia marketing though. The 1080 is the new overlord, and their 980Tis are trash. I'd bid on 980Tis if you want one cheap and see if you can pick one up under $400.

Not a bad deal, I mean if you're an nvidia only fan and want a used 980Ti. I know there is at least ONE person on here who said they refused to get a 1070 over the used 980Ti. Well, for now the used 980Ti is cheaper than the founders edition 1070. Not below the $380 MSRP NVidia hopes AIBs will use however.

I'd go with the 1070 personally, but a used 980Ti on a lucky ebay bid may be of interest to someone.

Assuming a 1070 is as fast as a 980Ti of course but the specs make me slightly worried.

Did you see the shipping price for them? Over 50% of the product price. $450+ & $1000+ to take them home. A far cry from $300 and $600.

Get embarrassed? lol. The 1080's are faster and they will be faster in SLI. Its a matter of how much faster and at what cost. If someone already has a 980ti and they can get another for $400 or less, that could get them within a respectable range of the 1080's and certainly faster than a single 1080 for way less money. Its not a bad stop gap solution if you want more performance now but don't want to spend huge money on the new mid range with the big boys coming up right around the corner.
So you can trade up and get a single 1080 for $3-400 or buy another 980ti and have two of them in SLI for about the same money. If your games support SLI I think I know which one will be faster.

Pcgameshardware.de has 1080 OC review with 5k, 6k, & 8k benchmarks for Bioshock Infinite and Skyrim.

Pclab.pl has OC benches, looks good for Grand theft auto 5.

Those are fake ads. You get sent the wrong item or no item, get your refund minus the shipping. Shipping is not refundable. Regardless if you are in the west coast, ya think 170 shipping is a deal, just to get the card for listed 300? That's imagining the deal is real in the first place.

Aside from the price the 1080 is a nice GPU -- 20%+ faster than 980ti while using 50+ watts less power.

I'm not buying one since I'm happy with my 980ti, but even at $650 it's a great deal compared to prices 6 months ago.

Hopefully AMD will be able to compete enough to force prices down more.
