So, I'm going to buy another 980Ti after I burned my current one. I better hurry because people are selling out 980Tis for half the price of that 1080.

They've got to keep from killing AMD outright, its like a cat-and-mouse game. The cat has already caught the mouse, and is just toying with it for fun.

Except price/performance they didn't even come close to 390. AMD has no reason to price their Polaris cards cheap now.

I saw 1 GTX 980Ti go for $300 and a SLI go for $600 on Ebay recently. That's the LOWEST obviously, but I mean, at that price why not use it as a stop gap til the 1080Ti comes out?

Every day AMD waits with Polaris is a day people will preorder with Nvidia.

What happens when we overclock both cards though?

Yeah, they're avoiding that, all of them. The fact is, if you have a 980TI that does OC well, like >1500MHz, there's no reason to go to the 1080 (unless you're an efficiency nerd).

Yeah its faster, but an OC'd 980ti is basically a stock 1080. The 1080 delivers a bump in performance, but its not a generational leap in any way. Not enough performance for $6-700, but still a great card in it's own right.

I tried to tell people this a couple days ago, but they wouldn't have it. :D

What GPU should I upgrade to?
I currently have a GTX 970 WF3, and it running games well at 1080P.
I don't know if I should to upgrade my GPU to GTX 1070 or just wait to GTX 2070 GPU.
What do you think?

That is what the reviewers don't want us to see.

You're happy with what you have now? Right. Wait :)

That's always easy! When you want to move to a higher resolution monitor/try VR/whatever in a bit, see what there is. It'll be better/cheaper than what there is now.

Cheap 980TI or nothing. Hurry because if people have any brains they will stop fire-selling 980tis.

I'd take a custom Geforce GTX 1070 any day over used Geforce GTX 980 Ti. Much lower power and probably better suited for future titles. Performance remains to be seen but should be close.

I bought a new one for half the price of 1080 and the best too. Asus Matrix. And 12% is already close between 1080 and 980ti.

300$ for a custom 3rd party one with 20% oc? people should jump at that. just a couple of days ago it was still 480$. almost 40% price drop on an already low price of 480.

Looks like an awesome card, but benefits of 10-15% over oc 980 ti for non-VR users make it a no brainer to buy a 980ti if indeed they're available for under 400.

Being a VR user myself, it's hard to leave the benefits of smp on the table if they turn out to be real.

Let's see what AMD comes forward with. Else I may buy this (once it is available for 600) even though I absolutely abhor the idea of it.

Your point was that Nvidia is offering no competition to AMD price/performance?

What AMD price/perfomance though?

We haven't seen AMD's new cards yet, and we've only seen one of NV's new cards.

Seems a bit thin to make judgements. :D

Generally anything Lightning is awesome so you made out like a pirate.

Yeah, the guy was like "my new 1080 is going to be over 50% faster than this card". I didn't know what to say, I just shook my head and handed him the money. I don't know whether to congratulate or condemn the Green PR team. :\ I know one thing, I hit 1580MHz without much effort. I've already ordered a waterblock for it.

I meant when we OC the Fury X and the 1080, in response to the 1080 being "barely faster". :D

My point is that even with worse perf/$, Nvidia still killed it. They could have priced Pascal bottom-dollar, but it would have been the last blow. They are the market leaders, and they are acting as such. I know it kills you to hear that your "vote with your wallet" purchases aren't making a difference in the grand scheme of things, but such is life.

Your argument makes no sense.

They were always going to be in different price categories, but Pascal offers absolutely nothing against Polaris.

Polaris could offer no improvement over Hawaii and sell perfectly fine at the exact same price points Hawaii sits in now.

There is no threat from Nvidia at all. All Nvidia did was offer a slightly faster, more expensive 980 TI option.

All Nvidia did was leave themselves open to a 780 vs 290 again.
