now you are definitly trolling

however HL2 was massivily over hyped

don't shoot the messenger. I personally play only one MP game -TF2, and have shi*load of SP games. But I am seeing that development is being shifted towards multiplayer, ever since we got broadband internet. At least by Valve and few other big players. Just look at last few Valve releases. Online playing = chance to milk $ beyond selling of game. Yep, SP games have expansion packs for same purpose.

I'm excited for potential HL3 and would be giddy if some modders made a co-op HL/Portal game where one players gets the grav gun and one gets the portal gun.

Dog+Companion Cube = <3

That sounds fun!! I like it!

I love HL2, not as much for the actual gameplay, but the experience, which still plays out better than the vast majority of titles out there.

I think HL3 is on the way, Valve is just taking it's sweet time. I think what would be plausible is a heavy co-op component that actually would be necessary to complete some things in the game. Perhaps a linear + branching path of gameplay and story telling would work well too, not too dissimilar to the MGS: Portable Ops titles but with more focus.

problem is SP games are not even little fun in 2011. all fun is in MP, and that's not HL3 territory. I can see why they are not in hurry.
That's just lazy on the part of game devs. While I like MP games, I would also like to have well thought / fleshed out SP games as well.
Not every gaming experience requires immature 12 year olds trying to one up George Carlin.

Ah, my bad for assuming you were one of the depressing breed of modern "gamers". The lazy way seems to be "Release superficial content that has _lots_ of busywork, charge a subscription / inundate players with micro-transactions, .... PROFIT"

This is a good reason.

Granted half life 2 was fun but the money tends to be in multiplayer now and using the funds for a single player game when it's not worth it compared to others can be a issue.

I vote they make half life 3 a mmo... ;)

I dare you to raise that point to Stardock games.
