about HL2, i'm REALLY not a fan of FPSs. i play RPGs and TBSs, i really like to plan and think about my moves. that being said, i enjoyed HL2 immensely, having played it only 2 years ago.

FPSs today are simply bad. nothing for an "older" gamer like me.

I find it hard to believe anyone actually cares, HL1 was ground breaking and a lot of fun, HL2 was mediocre AT BEST.

Still just seems like an internet fad, bug valve about HL3/ep3 while no one really cares.

Mediocre!! you on marijuana or something..

problem is SP games are not even little fun in 2011. all fun is in MP, and that's not HL3 territory. I can see why they are not in hurry.

So then why are we getting a new Bioshock game, and Mass Effect, and Batman, and Elder Scrolls? Oh right... Because you don't really know what you're talking about.

Someone should use Garry's Mod to make a Gabe Newell character and Machinima about Half Life 3.

The rumors I heard say valve is working on a whole new game engine, and that half-life 3 is not going to be released until the new engine is finished.

The source engine was introduced in 2004, and only supports directx9. The new engine is supposed to support directx11.

Valve knows that the source engine is not good for large outdoor areas, and they have fallen behind in directx support. The only way to fix that is with a whole new engine.

I thought HL2 was mediocre as well. Maybe it was because I 1st played it many years after it was released. I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

I got Episode 1 and 2 in the Orange box and started episode 1 and was like "meh" and never finished it.

I'm eagerly awaiting HL3. HL1 and HL2 were great games. I am fine with them taking their time. Valve has proven in the past that they can take their time on games and come out with fantastic games/engines.

And to those who say "multiplayer is not their strength"...are you kidding me? HL2 had CounterStrike packaged with it. For the time, that was top nods.

They need HL2:E3 before HL3. I don't think it makes sense for HL3 to pick up after the cliffhangar ending of E2.

That being said, I understand that HL3 would be best served on a new engine. Source is showing it's age now.

For me it will be like Duke Nukem, I've lost interest by now and won't buy it (if it was released) until a bargain bin steam sale. If I waited this long, I can always wait another 6-12 months after release to buy for close to nothing.

When I was playing the series a lot, I would've paid full price and gotten them on release like I did with the episodes. I haven't played in so long I don't even remember the storyline, nor care about it. Lots of similar games out now to keep me happy.

I don't think HL2 was over-hyped at all.

It's one of the few games that draws you in. I wanted to shoot up the bad guys. I was happy to see Barney. I couldn't help but laugh at the nerdy humor of Dr. Kleiner. It actually maintained an atmosphere instead of focused on being a technical demo. Speaking of which, it managed to look nice without being a system hog.

Fuck you! I'd rather never see HL3 than GRR Martin die with ASOIAF unfinished :colbert:

Fuck us! They're both fat guys so we're both pretty well screwed!

Looking forward to HL3. I never actually played HL, it came out well before I had my own computer and anymore I'm kind of just waiting for Black Mesa. But I thought HL2 was masterful, it pulled me in like almost no other game ever has and it's flaws are few and far between. Loved it.

Episode 1 was subpar, I still enjoyed it for the sake of just seeing more story but Episode 2 was a real return to form, far better and much closer to HL2 quality. I'd definitely recommend trying Ep2 for anyone who was put off by Ep1.

Personally I felt like where Ep2 ended was actually better suited for leading into a fullblown sequel than another episode. Maybe I'm just mistaking the scale of the events but it seemed to me that where Gordon and Alex were planning to go at the end of Ep2 feels more like a setup for HL3 than Ep3. Perhaps the journey there turns into Ep3, perhaps they skip Ep3 entirely.

Also I may be imagining things but in another HL thread a ways back weren't there reports of one of the head writers behind HL falling pretty seriously ill?

I wonder how many of the people that think HL2 was not that great actually grew up playing games in the 90's, including HL1.

I'm excited for potential HL3 and would be giddy if some modders made a co-op HL/Portal game where one players gets the grav gun and one gets the portal gun.

So I'm not allowed to have an opinion unless it satisfies the majority?

Okay Comrade.

Comrade, The problem isn't that you have a differing opinion. The problem is that you took a thread about a humorous photo-op and tried to turn it into an argument about whether half-life 2 is good or bad. That is what a troll does, tries to create an argument where one does not exist. I fully support your ability to create a thread about why you think Half-Life 2 sucks. I also don't expect you'd get as many views or responses as you got by posting your crap within this only slightly related thread.

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything, but if you're talking about Erik Wolpaw, this is the story summed up in a couple paragraphs:

Totally. Pwned.
