What a crybaby. Just face the fact that Valve is a business, Steam is a service and you are absolutely irrelevant to them because you don't spend any money; which makes you a non-customer. Grow up and get a job dude.

WYD?

They *did* say so. That's exactly what has you all worked up.

No they did not.

They said they were requiring payment to prevent spammers not because they thought that their services are only worth allowing those who pay to use them.

L4D2 was 2009 dude

4 years if you count Portal 2 :colbert:

Why WOULDN'T I count such an amazing game? Also, there has been DLC.

No they did not.

They said they were requiring payment to prevent spammers not because they thought that their services are only worth allowing those who pay to use them.

And what they said was true. FFS, dude: GIVE IT A REST.

CS:GO is hidden path, mate

What are you talking about now with all these heresies? Valve invented DOTA and no one else developed LFD. Why would they ever want to kick out another company from revenue or prestige in any game?

ALL HEIL GABE!

Edit: Reading up more about the production of LFD I can see that the company was actually purchased by Valve and then shut down. Valve finished their work on LFD and then quickly made yet another game.

they make a game called DOTA, they most certainly did not invent it.

The game is not that bad actually.

Have only recently reinstalled the game but from what I remember reading it is basically more about the metagame than anything. Wish they would put more variety in abilities and character advancement so that team loadouts are not just what influences the game.

Ignorance is bliss now? Since when did not telling everything mean you were never committing any lie?

How did they not tell everything? They said you'd have to pay to lift the restrictions if you were one of the few who hadn't already and they said why. Their reasoning was correct.

They told everything there was to tell but some thick-headed people ignore the important part and dwell on the impact to users with only retail and F2P libraries. Valve explained the impact themselves perfectly well: Until they spend money, their accounts are limited in the exact ways specified. There was no lie. Get a life.

I to am a spammer who is mad about this new revelation.

As you should! You should misrepresent this to legit users to get them whipped into a frenzy to convince Valve to let you continue abusing their services and other users! You have norseamd's blessings.

That has more to do with the fact that they support the free to play model and also put themselves off as benevolent overlords of nerds and shit. Also if they have the right to do this because of money than why are they not being transparent about it?

This is your coherent argument?

Aha! Now it makes sense!

Ahh... the confused anti-corporation ramblings of a questionably [mentally] competent internet forum poster. Always good for something. :awe:

I've read all the pages of this thread and have come to the conclusion that the OP is off his meds.

As much as I dislike Valve's hidden paywall scheme, I can't deny the benefits and cannot in good faith agree with the OP after this thread.

For what it's worth, I have never been harassed on Steam. Not once have I gotten a random message or read a Steam review.

Spend 5$ and be done with it poor man.
Seriously, it is 5 bucks

My kid decided he was ready to switch from console gaming to PC a couple of years ago. Most of his friends were migrating there too. We have not paid for XBL since. A $5 one time purchase to have a full Steam account is nothing.

Good, this gets rid of shill accounts that are created to tip voting, scammers and the like. I have almost 400 games in my account so this doesnt affect me in the least.

I've received several spammy messages and friend requests. Will be happy to get rid of, or at least minimize, them.

Now there is a lot I actually like about Valve and what they do. Especially their work in OS and VR. And I hope that Steam OS takes off and we can finally start getting some traction for Linux on the Desktop. Also Steam Machines getting at least some success would be good as it would show everyone that computers actually can game on the couch and they can do far more than regular old consoles.

But Valve often seems very willing to start dealing in grey and that is concerning me. Are all of you guys going to note what Valve has done for us but then not take into consideration that Google has actually done even more for us yet that is also the catch 22 on this shit here. Google has actually done tons and tons of "notable shit" for humanity. When you take the Steam surveys how come they give you all these options for telling them what you want to about your hardware but right at the end like something that might seem to you as an afterthought or just another summary tab they go and find every software or program installed on your computer. Without involving you at all or allowing you to give them information about your hardware or even what you want to tell them about your software without telling them every program you have installed on your computer.

I've never gotten any to my knowledge in my 10 years on steam. Do you play free games like TF2 or play MMOs?

I mostly play Sims and RTSs so...

I would love to present my opinion on this lively issue but i feel we have not discussed it enough for me to come to a conclusion. Hopefully we can have several more pages of posts so i can get a proper opinion formed!
