Horrible action scenes (way too much camera cutting, obscured angles, and pointless film speeds), cliched plot devices, overly obvious political analogies, poor pacing, ridiculously self-impressed mood, etc.

So I'm going to have to disagree with the OP.

On the other hand Children of Men, another dystopian film last year, WAS surprisingly good.

Ya I someone agree. I didn't think it was anything special... nor was it that bad. to me, it was just an ok movie w/ a crapload of plot holes and unrealism; but whatever...

Kids of Dudes on the other hand was an AWESOME movie. One of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. Now that was what V should've been like. Or, rather, V should've just taken place in another universe or another timeline. it's stupid attempt to fit in our timeline was just lame and something that's non-believable.

I thought kids of dudes should've won the oscar for cimeninementography (sp) and film editing. No idea why Departed won for Film editing. the oscar voters have no clue.

Happy Feet was a stupid movie.. nowhere close to Cars. It has political plugs and sexual innuendos to try to keep the movie interesting. I thought it was retarded. they should learn a thing or two from the dudes from Shrek if they want an all-audience CG movie.

No idea why Pan's Labyrinth won best makeup. that was utterly lame. Pan didn't look that realistic; nothing better than Pirates of the carribean, which in my opinion had a far superior makeup team (davey jones' crew..dude!). Apocalypto should've won best makeup.. the amount of work and crap to make all those peircings and tattoos look authentic was awesome.

Batman Vs. Wolverine: the Magic Battles should've won Art direction... its unique atmosphere was very consistent and fitted well w/ the coming twists and stuff (especially @ the arc of the movie where wolverine meets mr tesla coil). Pan's was just colorful...and that's it; nothing new... a complicated kids project is what it looked like to me compared to the vastness and the atmosphere given off in Batman vs Wolverine The Magic Battles.

Cinco de Mayo? Why?

I think this is one of the movies where you see bad directing, could have been really great.

I've been meaning to watch this for a while. I tried not to read too many posts here (afraid of spoilers) so is this worth seeing? I mean NP is in it, so I assume so, but would like other opinions.

Saw it in theaters opening day and really loved it. Hadn't seen it again until Sunday when I watched it on a whim. Still great and I caught stuff I missed first time around.

Cool. I'm a bit of a sucker for the whole dystopian society thing, so I imagine I'll like this.

Amazingly, no I have not. I always wanted to see it but could never convince anyone to go with me, then it just sort of fell off my radar.

I'll pick it up this week/weekend for sure though.

and a jumbled plot. it was a whole bunch of junk happening, with the intent of something meaningful, but there was no focused message.

potential ruined by directing/writing.

No focused message?! You can quibble about the side-plots like Natalie Portman's character and Stephen Rea's, but if you can't see what message is being sent through this movie then you're helpless, even if you disagree with the message (and many have) at least it's pretty obvious what is being conveyed through V's actions.

Simply put, the story is about revenge and revolution. V gets back at the people who poisoned/studied him and countless others. V sees what is happening with the leadership of the country under a ruthless dictator and makes it his duty to convince the people to stand up to him and do something about it. V knows he can't change the country alone so he sets in motion a chain of events to persuade the people to let go of their fear and stand up to those in control. V blows up Parliament like he said he would and we can only assume those who broke curfew to witness it would go on to easily overthrow the (at that point) leaderless government.

There were small things I didn't like about it but the movie in general was GREAT and very moving.

Um .... It would make more sense to bring this up for the 5th of November, not May. Resurrect again in 6 months.

Remember remember the 5th of November,
The gunpowder treason and plot.
I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

I submit that it is no coincidence that people who like this movie think that Guy Fawkes day is May 5.

Portman schoolgirl

I thought the movie was great as were Natalie Portman as well as Hugo Weaving, who did a masterful job of acting without the audience ever seeing any facial expressions.

I was pretty sure it was Finch that was on the couch, but no conclusive evidence.
