So I'm going to have to disagree with the OP.
On the other hand Children of Men, another dystopian film last year, WAS surprisingly good.
Ya I someone agree. I didn't think it was anything special... nor was it that bad. to me, it was just an ok movie w/ a crapload of plot holes and unrealism; but whatever...
Kids of Dudes on the other hand was an AWESOME movie. One of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. Now that was what V should've been like. Or, rather, V should've just taken place in another universe or another timeline. it's stupid attempt to fit in our timeline was just lame and something that's non-believable.
I thought kids of dudes should've won the oscar for cimeninementography (sp) and film editing. No idea why Departed won for Film editing. the oscar voters have no clue.
Happy Feet was a stupid movie.. nowhere close to Cars. It has political plugs and sexual innuendos to try to keep the movie interesting. I thought it was retarded. they should learn a thing or two from the dudes from Shrek if they want an all-audience CG movie.
No idea why Pan's Labyrinth won best makeup. that was utterly lame. Pan didn't look that realistic; nothing better than Pirates of the carribean, which in my opinion had a far superior makeup team (davey jones' crew..dude!). Apocalypto should've won best makeup.. the amount of work and crap to make all those peircings and tattoos look authentic was awesome.
Batman Vs. Wolverine: the Magic Battles should've won Art direction... its unique atmosphere was very consistent and fitted well w/ the coming twists and stuff (especially @ the arc of the movie where wolverine meets mr tesla coil). Pan's was just colorful...and that's it; nothing new... a complicated kids project is what it looked like to me compared to the vastness and the atmosphere given off in Batman vs Wolverine The Magic Battles.
