And I got some error about a modified executable or something and I had to reinstall :(

I'm not happy with it so far. Game is fun, but I can't play for more than five minutes.

You realize feign death is an option?

If you know to look for the death message, it doesn't really work, but if you aren't paying attention, the person can hit feign death, & i'll admit, it looks very convincing :D

was he on the hoverboard? i know you can get knocked off it but didn't realize you could stay laying down and feign death. with 2 or 3 people shooting him, he shouldn't have survived that many times though. its not hard to die in this game.

You basically just described the opposite of what actually happened :confused:

Hitscan was drastically overpowered in UT2k4.
EVERYONE knew this, hence why it was all lightning gun + shock rifle.

In UT3, it's much harder to pull off shot after shot with the sniper or shock, since they both have a knockback to the person firing, which makes it extremely difficult to dominate like with them like you could with the lg + shock in 2k4.
Comboes are also incredibly hard to hit in UT3, whereas in 2k4, moving, heck even dodging & comboing was easy.
In UT3, i find myself doing standing comboes too much, as it's way harder to pull them off.
But when you do, damn, they're impressive.


As for bio rifle, again wtf?

Bio was certainly not a major weapon in 2k4, but it's improved in UT3.
The secondary blob is huge, far bigger & harder to avoid than 2k4, & the primary is easier to kill with also.

Flack nerfed?
Not sure i can agree with that either; i've gotten a ton of kills with the secondary, & primary is still devastating with a direct hit or up close.

Art direction i'll agree on; i loved UT2k4 because it was so vibrant & colorful...UT3 does indeed seem kinda muted & has way too much HDR/bloom.

As for Manta, handling seems a bit better now, though it can't jump or get nearly as high anymore :(

I am not impressed with the vehicles thus far though...they seem way too easy to bring down to the point where you almost might as well not bother in some cases.

I initially thought the idea of the hoverboard was kewl, & i still like the concept of them for getting around in a hurry, but they're incredibly hard to maneuver, & inability to shoot while on them combined with the instant fall + delay getting up with hit with a shot is ridiculously annoying.
They should allow you to shoot while on them, just make aiming more difficult due to movement to prevent everyone from always using them.

And get rid of the dumb eternal delay you get from falling off them...frankly, the more i think about them, the less i like the hoverboards.

I guess i'll be able to comment better when we see Warfare, but i truely like ONS in 2k4, & thus far, vehicular gameplay hasn't impressed me at all.

I pray it gets better in the full game, but i'm not liking the vehicle based gametypes so far.


DM based gametypes = far better in UT3 overall though, thankgod.
Weapons are far more balanced now, with much less hitscan dominance.

Rockets are fantastic; great to see them a valid weapon again; but the third alt fire for grenades is too hard to pull off to be helpful to me so far sadly...i need to investigate if theres a way to shoot them via a different bind.

Loved the flack in 2k4; love it even more in UT3.

Stinger is a much better than the mini.

Shock primary is harder to hit with, which is good considering how ridiculously abused its power was in 2k4.
Comboes are fucking awesome, though they are more of a challenge to pull off while moving.

Sniper is the big mistake in UT3. Snipers don't belong in an unreal universe IMO, & while the gun is okay, the lg is a far better weapon-type they could reworked/nerfed slightly that would have been far better.

Bio is now a valid spam weapon i've gotten so many kills with :D

Enforcers are drastically better than the useless ass rifle 2k4 has, with dual enforcers being an awesome alternative to the stinger!
I'd rather have the grenades as secondary for the enforcer though (instead of the confusing third firing mode on the rox), as they were a truely awesome underrated weapon in 2k4, & the UT3 grenades are directly stolen from Q3/4...

I was one of those who loved the shield gun in UT2k4. I also am fully aware it was far too good for avoiding kills with; i abused that far too much.
I do think the the primary on the impact hammer is wicked for jumps & kills too, but it shouldn't take forever to charge like it does, or at least allow a quick little hammer-jump w/o taking forever to charge (like you could do w/ the shield gun).

Many will disagree with this, but the biggest mistake in UT3 IMO is the removal of the dodge jump.
It was what made the unique movement style of UT2k4 IMO.
Yes, it needed to be nerfed somewhat, but i don't agree with total removal.
No other fps i know has it, & no other fps was as fun as UT2k4 either IMO.

But alas, they had to make UT3 n00b friendly, so no dodge jumping :(


Overall though, again, i'm very happy with UT3 gameplay, though Warfare & VCTF are questionable till i see some better maps.
The menu system/interface & game endings interface is utterly retarded though, & needs major work...
Hopefully that'll change by the full game release.

You can get knocked off or feign while running. Naturally i'd stop shooting if I saw that. The UI is okay...functional. Stylized more than the old versions...I don't like the logon though. Even if you don't play online you have to logon..or even to exit. That has to be fixed.

I'm really surprised that it looks so amazing and still manages to run very well at 1680x1050 on my C2D6600 and x1950Pro.

Dodging, then jumping at the peak of the dodge. It was a quicker way of getting around maps on foot.

It was doing that, and then hitting jump again mid-dodge. Was like a crazy long jump that allowed you to absolutely abuse those who didnt know how or didnt have the skill to do it. It also made the games movement so frantic and outrageous at times that it wasnt even fun to play, because movement was so slow, and dodging/dodgejumping so fast that it was just dodge dodge dodge all the time.

I'm glad its gone, and they did leave the wall-dodge in, and thats good enough for me. :p

I last played UT for a few months back in 2000 so I didn't realize what effect dodge jump had. But you are right...in UT2k4 anyone who had the flag often did this and it often resulted in deceptive movements and escapes.

I think he means compared to the original UT. That's how I interpreted it anyway.

Well, it's still pretty much mandatory if you really want to be competitive.

On a side note, you can try out the Avril and Redeemer in the demo by entering the usual allweapons command in the console. The sound effects for them don't seem to be in the demo, but they work fine otherwise.

I wonder how big a deal it is to have a dual core CPU. I'm on an Opteron 148 at 2.53 Ghz and I didn't think it was hurting me, but how the heck would I know if it's my x800xt or the CPU that's holding me back? Sure hope to be able to see some benchmarks soon comparing single cores with dual cores.

The only way they could have survived is if they were cheating or feign death excludes you from ALL damage(which is just wrong,never was like that before).The shots definitely hit them because they were getting blasted up against walls.
He was on foot.
Ive seen people get knocked off the hover board before,or jump outta vehicles before they explode,thats no big deal.
I wish there was spectator mode,I would have frapsed it and made a movie.Kinda stupid not to have spec mode.

EDIT: Not sure what all the squawking is about, but it DM seems JUST like UT2k4 DM, which is awesome :D
