It means that unlike retarded releases like Crysis, Quake Wars, TF2, etc., we won't have to pay FilePlanet to be guaranteed a chance to play, or sit at home waiting for a limited number of beta keys to be launched [via FilePlanet, etc.].

Granted, i'm still a little worried FP subscribers will be getting first dibs or something, but as long as there's no silly activation or key needed, as soon as the beta gets downloaded somewhere, it's going to show up on sites & torrents everywhere.

The Beta Demo will allow instant action play against bots as well as online multiplayer.

Sir_Brizz actually posted that the beta was coming out in two weeks before Mark Rein said anything.

Now he says quite likely beta shows up this Friday

According to various rumors, for those who want to know, the UT3 demo will have two or three maps:

DM-Heatray which has a single Darkwalker in it that drops powerups when it's destroyed. (Seems kind of lame to me--a vehicle on a DM map? Maybe it will be fun.)

CTF-Suspense which is a vehicles CTF map.

Possibly DM-Shangri-La.

NO Warfare map and no non-vehicles CTF map.

Oh gawd...more like DM-Hitscantalus...

Terrible map.
Far too wide open for UT2k4, lg on the top in middle = worst placement ever.

It's basically an instagib map for hitscan whores.



So yeah, each to their own i suppose.

I have no doubt someone will bring Antalus over to UT3, though i pray they don't.

Well, I did play that map with low-grav + double-jump + zoom instagib .
