what a GREAT GAME! haven't have so much fun in a fast paced FPS action for a while. Well, for the record, i just recently came back to PC gaming, so I missed all the famous titles since 2002. (ie: UT2003,2004, Q4, FEAR, MOH, COD). the last FPS I've played was CS, HL, Q3, and UT the original and UT3 reminds me a lot of it. the graphic is great. ran fine at 800x600 with my Athlon X2 2.1 gig and 8600GT with 2 gigs of DDR2800.

Nothing will be as good as the original UT, but this is damn close. Much better than UT03/04.

Wow, this thing buggered my system up but good.

First off, it's got horrible weird blocking all over the screen. Looks similar to "macroblocking". Thought my video card was overheating, so I used the tried and true method of "pointing a fan into the case with the side off" and that didn't help it. Secondly, the bullshit Physx drivers conflicted with SOMETHING and caused programs which access CD/DVD drives to have a fit and lock the whole system up. Had to restore back to a point before I installed Daemon Tools.

The few minutes I played, I wasn't really impressed. It's a prettied up UT, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it just didn't impress me overall. If I wanted UT, I'd just install UT.

I thought it was a nice demo, the graphics are much better than Bioshock (what a horribly coded game that is) and it runs better too and these aren't even the final graphics. The art style looks pretty cool and it reminds me a lot of Gears of War.

Gameplay is pretty darn fun and a throwback to the original UT, nothing revolutionary here but its still good ol' UT.

Two things I didn't like, the consolized user interface and the fact that the demo install AGEIA drivers even if you don't have any physx hardware, thankfully, removing the drivers are pretty easy and didn't seem to mess up my system.

UT3 makes pretty good use of dual core CPUs.

Will there be any type of demo release with dx10 capability? I watched some preview videos and am now jealous :)

The Bio Rifle is worthless again.
My beloved flak cannon got a healthy dose of NERF.
Hitscan weapons are WAY more powerful than projectile weapons.
Aside from the weapon balance needing serious work and the art direction sucking (Remember kids, Brown is the new Black :() its still fun.
The Manta is alot more fun to drive now, and it was my fav vehicle in 04.
*shrug* I'll buy it, but this is rather disappointing. Its certainly no TF2 (this coming from a major UT fan).

I'm starting to get the same impressions after playing the demo more. Several of the projectile weapons, including the biorifle and flak altfire, move kind of slowly.

I don't know what people are talking about with weapon balance. I find this to be the perfect mix between the powerful weapons of UT99 and the sluggish 2k4 weapons. Also, if anyone bitches about the PhysX driver anymore you need to get a hold of yourself. You should ALWAYS have the drivers installed on your PC even if you don't have the card. The physics system uses the API despite the hardware being present. This is the same thing for City of Villians.

Also, I find this game very convincing and purchase worthy. Something I am not willing to say about any other game right now. Absolutely addicting. Made me put faith in the franchise again. UT2k4 was an abortion compared to the original.

I think they improved the goo. It seems to cover more effectively..can't quite put my finger on it. I know what you mean with the flak..at FIRST i thought it was nerfed..but they really tweaked it only a little. Once you use it..you adjust. I was using it just like I did in 04 after a couple of plays. Actually it's a bit more usefull because the flak bounces more than once. Main thing I had to get used to are the projectile graphics..everything is so flashy like :p. It all feels like a fun frag arcade...much more inviting than 04 when I think about it.

What do you mean? UT 2003/2004 was a huge failure compared to the Original, and the UT3 demo feels much more like the Original. In fact, from what I can tell, many of the pro players who rejected UT 2003/2004 and continued to play the Original really liked the UT3 demo.

Just give the new game play a chance.

I enjoyed UT 2004 for Onslaught and Monster Hunt, but the huge emphasis on hitscan and floaty-dodgyness reduced the amount of fun for CTF. (Notice that the public CTF servers, not to mention Bombing Run servers, are empty...whereas CTF servers for the Original UT were jam packed for years? There's a reason for that.)

Is a hitscan weapon better? That depends on your situation. You probably won't want to use the sniper rifle if you're fighting in close quarters.

I really liked the feel of the weapons this time, at least the primary ones that I tried out--Flak, Shock, Rocket. The Shock rifle looks cool and is a HUGE improvement over the UT 2004 shock rifle. Shock combos are viable again! If you're fighting at mid-range, you're probably going to be using the shock rifle and not the sniper.

Compared to UT 2004, it should have far less hitscan simply because all of your opponents won't be floating through the air. Also, the scale of the non-vehicles maps, especially the custom maps, should be much tighter. It's too bad that Epic didn't include CTF-Coret as a non-vehicle CTF demo.

I must be the only one who preferred UT2003/04 over the original. I'll def buy UT3 no doubt but I ain't gonna buy it like I did Orange Box. I will wait till its released and can find it for around $40.

I still playing the original UT, the original is fun.I bought UT2003/04 and I didnt like 'm with all the stupid skin and vehicles.... The problem is a lot of guys playing online want to jump for to the vehicles, you know Halo stuff some vehicles are so annoying to move and drive they get stuck everywhere. I like the adrenaline 1 to 1 maps deathwatch and UT3 I heard is coming with a good single player but the new flack cannon and goo gun suck big time, I like the machine gun and finally snipe rifle is good I 'll buying it when the price hit the $35

Wouldn't be a problem if the damn thing played nicely on my system, but it doesn't. Game runs fine without the stupid drivers anyway.

I don't have city of Villians, but not because of the physx drivers.

just played for a bit. It was very fun. I prefer these kind of game at LANs though. I'd much prefer to completely own a friend of mine than some random person. Not the case with games like CS:S though I don't mind killing random people all day in that haha.

I was enjoying it until today it people suddenly don't die anymore.Saw this on 2 different vehicle CTF servers.

The first time the guy took the flag then was promptly gunned down by me with the rocket launcher,a teammate in a tank,a teammate with a minigun. He was hit so hard he flew up against the wall behind him.The he GETS UP we are like WTF??? So we all blast the crap outta him again. Then he gets up AGAIN.This happens 2 more times,so I leave the server to find another figuring that was a lame server admin.

On to the next server where someone else was doing that too.Just kept getting knocked down and not dying ran the flag every time for his team. When they get knocked down they drop the flag and then get up and pick it up again. If your on a server where you see the flag getting dropped and immediately getting picked up again over and over this may be why.

Sad to see this kinda junk already. This was going to be the first multiplayer game I bough in 4 years.I doubt I will buy it now.

Don't mean to be rude but some of you guys' complaints about the demo are like it's the retail game. If I'm not mistaken this is even a BETA demo. UT games has always had all the options you're saying aren't there and has always been fair so I don't undestand the criticism...I'm glad they even released this much given the delays. Gameplay issues are debatable but tech issues should be expected.

i think the goo was again useless.... unless in close quarter combat with no Flak cannon on hand. and speaking of which, I too felt the Flak shot a bit slower than UT1 (in both prim and secondary fire). THe Shock rifle is awesome.. and the shock combo looks amazing!

the link rifle suck balls though.
