Yes, but I assumed that was just my 5 year old video card (and it still probably is; I only noticed the crash at resolutions higher than 640x480).

Edit: And in my case I couldn't kill the process once it was crashed either - it didn't lock up the whole system, but if I wanted to free the several hundred MB's of RAM that the game was using, I had to reboot :frown:

My system played it smooth as butter :) .. I build my rig last year in hopes to play this game. Glad to know it held up. I'm a UT2003/2004 vet..and yea it's like those games xcept on steriods and updated graphics. I can't believe it..but it seems even MORE faster paced than the last but the weapons have been noticeably balanced. Now you can use any weapon effectively. It seems they have reduced the effectiveness of the shock rifles shock blast...i'm often dead before i can complete it. But the link gun is actually usuable now, as well as the goo. Enforcers suck as always..no nades it seems. No shield either??? I'll miss it or maybe they changed it. They've made the vehicles even MORE deadly..lol. The manta controlled way better than old..and so did the rap. Also the hellbender is finally usefull with one driver. So it's more fast paced and noob friendly. But I was on a server 2night with some real pros and they owned me like crazy on team deathmatch..dev team maybe??

But like the migration from UT to UT2k4..some will prob choose to stay behind. I don't understand what took them so long to release though. The gameplay is very similar..but I just appreciate the new engine, maps, balanced gameplay....rather than the same old stuff. I hope the mod community hurries and makes cool mods b/c the engine is tremendous. Going to miss onslaught...but I still have UT2k4 for that :).

The GUI feels a bit consolized in general. They should bring back the UT99 GUI.

I can't believe it..but it seems even MORE faster paced than the last

I still don't think it's as insane as UT99, but it's the closest game we have.

They've made the vehicles even MORE deadly
I didn't think so. I was able to blast a Manta across the map with a a well placed rocket burst. I should try out the AVRIL though, as it sucked it 2k4.

Other than that, I wish I could try out that Unreal Warfare gametype that is supposed to be in the full game. It's supposed to be like a Battlefield meets UT gametype with resource collection.

Finally got the chance to play for the past hour. This game is definately better than UT2k4. I like the faster pace and weapons balance; no more of those interminable fights because the weapons were nerfed in 2k4. I was worried about the sniper rifle, because they removed the LG and the sniper outright sucked in 2k4, but this new sniper is about perfect in UT3. The hoverboard is great and I can imagine there will be some mods and maps centered around it. I'm kind of disappointed we don't get to sample the warfare game mode, but I'm hoping that comes with the final demo release.

I'm playing at low everything because my system is so old (athlon64 3500+ and 7600gs), so I can't judge the graphics at this point, but all in all, I'll definately be buying this game on release and will have built myself a computer to run it on by then.

I got to play for two hours this morning. It feels really good! Definitely seems like a return to the feel of UT99 though I haven't been able to try the translocater yet. I enjoyed the hoverboard on the vehicles map, though I can't say I'm all that proficient with using yet. Looked better than I expected.

What pleased me is that my rig is a mere Opteron 148 running at 2.53 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, and an x800xt and it played decently at 1024 x 786. I was very pleasantly surprised. All I really need is an optional video card upgrade and I'll be good to go.

I do think that all of the eye candy distracts from the game play, some, and I hope we'll see some BSP CTF maps (produced by mappers) where the focus is on the game play and not the eye candy. I bet I could make some BSP-only maps that looked decent merely by using various textures and custom textures.

I didn't think that the functioning of the menu was that bad, though I guess I'd prefer the UT 2004 menus. I thought the backdrops for the pages looked a helluva lot better than the goofy UT 2004 backdrops.

I sure, sure hope that they dramatically increase the number of settings options in the menu and dramatically improve the server browser. Needs favorites, etc. In the browser, I also noticed that if you tell it to organize servers by # of players, it just looks at the first digit in number of players, so a server with 8 players on it would rank higher than one with 32 or 15 (since 8 is greater than 3 or 1). I'd also like to be able to enter in a server IP without having to open the console (tilda key) and type: open <IP address>.

It might be the frame blending thing the game does. Try the tweak I suggested earlier to get rid of it.

It doesnt do any frameblending or motion blur. That setting youre talking about determines whether or not the engine drops a few details to maintain a smoother framerate.

No, there is a separate setting called MinDesiredFramerate that controls that. This seems to be a new thing they have added in, and it evidently doesn't work well.

Yeah, I thought AA didn't work with the UE3 games yet? I think we had a huge discussion about this when it came to Bioshock?

Definitely need an option to turn off the taunts, they're annoying. It didn't seem like there were many differences between the bot models?

The taunts were kind of annoying, but I just yell back at them, "I let you hit me so I wouldn't look so perfect" :p

Probably some driver issues. Did you try upgrading them?

Onslaught was my favorite mode in UT2K4 :(.

Yes. And no, it didn't make a difference.

It doesn't really matter though, as I already uninstalled the demo. It's too slow to actually play (at least at any detail levels where you can actually see anything), so it'll just have to wait a few years until I upgrade. :)

If you rename the unrealdemo.exe to Bioshock.exe it allows you to enable AA and works fine in both XP/Vista.

aargh, keep getting not enough disk space error on Install. I've set it to Install on a drive with more than enough space, but it seems to be trying to Install to C which definitely doesn't have the space. :|:|

I'm really diggin VCTF I wish someone could set up a dedicated AT server...

I'm having more fun with this demo than anything released so far recently... I also have everything in the UT Universe ....

I tried setting up a dedicated server yesterday, but no one could connect.

I think it has to do with forwarding ports on routers, but i'm not sure.

The lack of dedicated servers right now is terrible...no where to play with decent ping.

Weird, I'm not having any problem with the install. I've got it on my G drive.

Your C drive is probably being used as a temporary folder for the installer. This is kind of like how Stranglehold says it requires 40GB of install space while installing for temporary files.

If that's the case, try doing this:
