Can't connect to *ANY* server - Juniper shows a lot of UDP connections and all ends as "AGED OUT"...

What ports needed? All outgoing is free - is there any incoming port requirement?

Yeah, the servers are having huge lag issues right now. Just play with bots for now, set them at "Skilled" or a better difficulty level. I find that the bots in UT3 seem to put up a much better fight than they could in previous UT games.

Ohh I got it installed and started playing... it was lots of fun :D. The game looked incredible on my setup in 1650x1080:

Intel Q6600, Gigabyte P35-DSR3, 4GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 (4x1GB), eVGA eGeForce 8800GTX, Vista Ult x64

Never used anything to report the FPS, but it felt very fluid, although I must admit, WoW keeps creeping in as I'll hit Q or E to strafe, since A and D are turn left and turn right in WoW. I gotta get myself back to normal .

That perfectly sums it up. It's not UT99 and it's not UT2004. It's whole art style also seems more similar to Gears of War than anything else.

I was playing this for the last hour and generally like it a lot. It's not quite UT but the weapons are much more powerful than in UT2004 and seem to be better balanced in general. I like the fact that the vehicles no longer totally dominate guys on foot like they did in UT2004. The hoverboards are also a nice addition and useful for flag relay, although I don't think I ever saw the bots using them.

It ran okay at 1024x768 without AA on my X1900XTX, pretty much always staying at least at 45fps. I can probably get it to stay at 60 by turning the settings down some more. I could do without that bloom effect in particular anyway, which looks nice but makes some of the weapon shots very hard to see.

There is something odd with the motion though. It almost feels like a small but rapid fluctuation in the game speed. It was there even in the observer mode at the beginning, when the framerate was constantly 60. I could especially notice it by going up to a wall, staring at the details on it and strafing a bit. I don't know if it's related to the framecap or if it's some kind of side effect of motion blur. Maybe some setting in the game's ini files will help.

Also, the demo seems to have installed some kind of PhysX driver. Does the game need this or can it be removed? I don't have a PhysX card.

yep, i played with average bots and they did really well. older UT games you could dominate them.

i only played team dm so far. i absolutely hate the walker thing in tdm. there's no need for such a powerful thing to be in that kind of game. although, my teammate bots didn't seem to try to kill it when the other team got it. so maybe with everyone on the opposite team trying to take it down, it might be better. i dunno.

the weapons do seem a lot more powerful. i got really confused a few tiems because i would get killed but couldn't tell what killed me. i;'d be running and all of a sudden i'd go flying across the map and die.

graphics are pretty nice and gameplay is fast and frantic. seems more like the original UT in that aspect, but still not quite as fun for some reason.

Needs a total UI overhaul before the final release, since there are no redeeming features in the UI.
Nothing seems particularly new or exciting over UT2k4, just more of the same with lower performance and slightly nicer graphics at the moment.
Quite disappointing.

It's running great at full settings with 1920x1200 resolution. It looks beautiful and has pretty fast paced gameplay, I love the sniper rifle :)

Also, I can't find where to set the AA and AF, where are those settings located?

Runs surprisingly well on my old system. 20-25 FPS on 1280x1024, medium settings. Looks fantastic and is very fun. Unfortunately the only populated MP server I could get into was lagged to hell, but the bots weren't THAT bad.

Usually have to be forced via drivers (same as w/ Ut2k4)

I'm loving Ut3.

Going back to playing right now!

When is this demo "supposed" to come out? We might get some working servers at that point.

yep, i played with average bots and they did really well. older UT games you could dominate them.

i only played team dm so far. i absolutely hate the walker thing in tdm. there's no need for such a powerful thing to be in that kind of game. although, my teammate bots didn't seem to try to kill it when the other team got it. so maybe with everyone on the opposite team trying to take it down, it might be better. i dunno.

Yeah, the walker seemed to be too powerful. Although it only felt that way when I took it myself at one point. It kept changing hands earlier, but I sat in a corner and stayed alive for a long time until the end of the game even though the bots were on masterful. It could be that the bot AI is just bad at attacking it. In the previous UT games, the bots were generally very good at basic close-up combat but didn't use a lot of other tactics you would expect from humans. The hoverboards look like another example of this.

The masterful bots seem to be comparable to the godlike ones in the previous games, as they essentially have perfect accuracy.

Usually have to be forced via drivers (same as w/ Ut2k4)

The PC Perspective article says AA doesn't currently work. There is supposed to be patch later on to enable it.

By the way, I found out how to fix that weird motion problem I described earlier. There is a setting in the \Engine\Config\BaseEngine.ini file called bSmoothFrameRate, which needs to be set to false. This also removes the framecap and makes the game feel much more fluid. My guess is that this can be set in the full version's ingame video options menu, as I recall something similar in UT2004.

Now I just need to figure out how to get it to stop resetting my key mappings every time I exit the game. :p That might simply be a matter of taking the read only tag off all the files, which is strangely enabled on many of them.

Also, the AGEIA thing is apparently not needed. I uninstalled it and the game seems to work fine without it.

Gonna have to give it more time. I might sit this UT out for a few months since I have TF2 taking up some time. I think the rockets need a bit bigger explosion when hitting stuff. They look like fire crackers going off but thats just a minor gripe.

Damn, way better than I expected. I mean, I expected it to be good and all, but it just plain rocks. Love the hoverboard and grapple.

Aint nothing like knocking the enemy off his board with one raptor shot, swooping down for the kill as he lies there dazed, having a teammate pick up the flag, grapple onto my raptor, and we fly, fly away into the distance. Even though the weapons and vehciles are mostly the same, there does appear to be enough new elements to freshen it up.

I'm an avid UT2004 fan, but I mostly play on custom Invasion servers (Monster Madness for the win !). However now that I've played enough of the UT3 Demo I can only imagine how beautiful some of the monsters models could certainly be under that engine. By the way guys, do any of you know if it was announced if there will be an official Invasion game mode in the final game ?

It might be the frame blending thing the game does. Try the tweak I suggested earlier to get rid of it.

I didn't play UT2k4 but you're right on the rest of it. The menus are hopeless. I couldn't type @ for the email address, it kept dropping down the console instead  Then I found I can't bind TAB for the scoreboard. WTF. Every FPS with DM I've ever played defaults the scoreboard to TAB, but in UT3 land it's F1 with no chance of it being TAB? Weak.

Definitely need an option to turn off the taunts, they're annoying. It didn't seem like there were many differences between the bot models? Are they all supposed to look the same? The end of a DM round sucks, just a freeze-frame of your player with you won/lost.

No performance issues at all at 1440x900 max'd but it doesn't look that great either so I'm not surprised.
